“Putin’s system,” he [Eidman] continues, “corresponds to the classic definitions of fascism. At the center of ‘Putinism’ is the idea of national rebirth and revenge (for defeat in the cold war), a cult of a national leader, the priority of state interests over the rights and freedoms of citizens, the search for national traitors, militarism, sexism, and homophobia.”

Window on Eurasia: 2014 a ‘Turning Point for Russia’ Because of Putin’s KGB Psychology, Eidman Says

Paul Goble

Staunton, December 18 – 2014 has been a real “turning point” in Russian history, one comparable to 1929 and marked by “the beginning of a confrontation of Russia with the West and the establishment in the country of an aggressive regime close to a fascist one which is in a state of permanent war” both internally and externally, according to Igor Eidman.

Both the external and internal dimensions of this change, the Russian analyst says, have potentially “unexpected and dangerous” consequences for their author, Russian President Vladimir Putin. And both the change and these consequences reflect his personality and the nature of the authoritarian regime he has set up (svoboda.org/content/article/26744737.html).

In the past, Putin had been more cautious, reflecting his careerist approach and his calculations about the world around him. But now, on the basis of his assessment of the situation, Putin believes his time has come, and consequently, he is acting on the values that he absorbed as a KGB officer 30 years ago.

Those values include, Eidman says, “Soviet imperialism, hatred to the West (above all to the US as the main potential opponent), contempt for democratic values and human rights, and a view of the republics of the former USSR and the countries of Eastern Europe as the natural vassals of Russia.”

To make his career, the current Kremlin leader served “’democrats’ Sobchak and Yeltsin” and was cautious when he first was elevated to the presidency. But now he has decided that the most favorable time has come “for the realization of his ambitions,” a conclusion that his “emotional reaction” to the Ukrainian Maidan accelerated.

He was pushed in this direction by the fact that he has surrounded himself with others who have a background in the Soviet and Russian security services and thus view the world much as he does, Eidman continues.  But he bears responsibility for it because from his point of view, “a confrontation with the West” helps him personally.

Such a confrontation inevitably increases the importance of the siloviki, justifies harsh measures, and draws on the patriotism of the population. Moreover, 2014 in Putin’s view turned out to be just the right time to move in that direction. Economic growth, based on high oil prices, was coming to an end. And consequently, he needed “a small victorious war.”

Putin understands, Eidman says, that an economic downturn could cost him the support of the population and lead some to democracy as many did in the aftermath of the economic crisis of 2008.  By creating an enemy that the country must oppose with either a hot or cold war, the Kremlin leader effectively restricted the opportunities of the opposition.

According to Eidman, “the shift to an expansionist foreign policy course was inevitable” because it was the product of the “internal organization of the Russian regime, its essence,” and itself the product of Putin’s personality.

“Putin’s system,” he continues, “corresponds to the classic definitions of fascism. At the center of ‘Putinism’ is the idea of national rebirth and revenge (for defeat in the cold war), a cult of a national leader, the priority of state interests over the rights and freedoms of citizens, the search for national traitors, militarism, sexism, and homophobia.”

Revenge is at the center of fascism and Nazism, Eidman says, “an idee fixe” for both Putin and Hitler and the driving force behind their actions. Other governments, including the Soviet, had elements of this, but “the Putin regime is more dangerous for the world than any post-Stalin leadership of the USSR.”

The reason for that conclusion is that unlike the late Soviet period, with its collegial Politburo that was inclined toward caution, Putin is completely in charge. He personally takes all the decisions on his own, and thus “peace on the planet depends on the state of his psychic health.”

Disturbingly, the Kremlin leader has shown himself “ever more inadequate,” and thus the risks that he might do something truly frightening are all too real. “It is perfectly clear,” Eidman concludes, that if the West does not stop him in Ukraine, “he will not stop but instead go further.”

US General: Islamic State Fight to Take at Least 3 Years

The general in command of U.S. forces involved in the fight against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria said on Thursday he thought it would take a minimum of three years to achieve a turning point against the group. Asked at a Pentagon briefing about progress on the ground, Army Lieutenant General James Terry said the first U.S. air strikes had taken place only four months ago and counseled patience, estimating it would "at least take a minimum of three years."

Extreme Russian Nationalism Widespread in Soviet Security Organs, Archives Show

Staunton, December 18 – The Soviet security agencies from Lenin on were infected by an often vicious Russian nationalism which led their officers to attack non-Russians far more frequently than Russians, according to a new study based on archival sources by Aleksey Teplyakov, a Novosibirsk historian.
Many researchers Russian and foreign have considered the national aspects of Soviet political repression, he says, but “up to now there have not been any which allow for an assessment of the presence of chauvinist and nationalist attitudes among the Chekist corporation of the influence of these subjective factors on the conduct of repressive policies.”
Indeed, he points, many have focused on the presence of a significant stratum of non-Russians within the Soviet secret police and other security agencies to conclude that the organs, however repressive, were not chauvinist and anti-Russian (Shovinizm i natsionalizm v organakh VChK-MGB-MVD SSSR, in Sovetskiye natsii i natsionalnaya politika v 1920-1950 gody, Moscow ROSSPEN, 2014, pp. 649-657, posted online here).
But in fact, these organs were infected by chauvinism, and those attitudes were reinforced rather than reduced by the constant campaigns of repressions against one or another non-Russian people, with some of the Chekists working in the republics acting like “typical colonial bureaucrats” and routinely expression “aggressive-chauvinist attitudes” toward the minorities.
Teplyakov says that within the Soviet secret police, chauvinism ranged from dismissive comments about “’backward Asiatics’ or ‘little Jews’” to the belief that non-Russian groups should be subject to “broad ethnic purges” even if the cases against the members of such groups had to be fabricated.
During the Russian civil war, the Chekists sought to decapitate the national movements in Kazakhstan, Kalmykia, Gorno-Altay, Yakutia (Sakha), Central Asia and Azerbaijan even as they recruited other non-Russians to carry out such campaigns. And these campaigns frequently were over-fulfilled because of the attitudes of the Chekists involved.
In March 1922, for example, Cheka commanders took note of the fact that “the internal forces suppressing the uprising in Yakutia could only with difficulty “be kept from wiping out the Yakuts” involved. Throughout the 1920s, Chekists killed with impunity members of the numerically small peoples of the North as well as others simply because they were not Russian.
Stalin’s increasingly nationalist course in the 1930s only exacerbated this tendency. Stalin himself, Teplyakov points out, told one official that the organs should force all of the non-Russians to fall on their knees and then execute them “like mad dogs.” The Chekists needed little encouragement, the archives show.
After World War II, the situation deteriorated further, with the organs sometimes provoking nationalist risings and then using them as an excuse to imprison, torture or kill members of non-Russian nationalities. That happened with the Nentsy, the Baltic nations, the Ukrainians and others as well, the archives show.
Chauvinism increased in the ranks of the organs on a continuous basis during the last years of Stalin’s reign. The state security minister in the Buryat-Mongol ASSR said that as long as he was in office, “not one Buryat would be allowed to be in a leading position” anywhere in the republic. He was subsequently punished. But others did much the same elsewhere without being called to account.
The Chekists overwhelmingly welcomed Stalin’s anti-Semitic campaign. Although there had been many Jews among the Chekists in the 1920s, their numbers had dwindled in the 1930s during the Great Terror, and members of the Soviet organs routinely talked about the need to get rid of the Jews inside their ranks and elsewhere.
While Russian and Russianized Chekists were allowed to flaunt their chauvinism, those Chekists who were of non-Russian origin were expected to behave as internationalists, which in the Soviet context meant being pro-Moscow and against their own peoples as well as other non-Russians.
Sometimes the non-Russian Chekists sought to insure themselves against attack by posing as more Russian than the Russians. An example of this was the response of a Jewish Chekist to whom Patriarch Tikhon spoke in Hebrew. M.P. Shreyder responded that he “lives in Russia and doesn’t need any other language but Russian.”
But non-Russian Chekists sometimes could not restrain themselves from reacting to the chauvinism of their Russian colleagues. I.P Yakovlev, a Yakut who was a senior official of the Ministry of State Security in the Yakut SSR once burst out “the Russians are bastards … they are stealing Yakutia and wreaking havoc on the Yakuts.”
Because it was found that he was drunk, Yakovlev got away with this with only a minimal punishment. Others were not so lucky. N.Ch.Tovarishtay, the head of the interior ministry administration in Tuva said there were too many Russians about and that they should all be “shot.”
The Tuvan was expelled from the party, fired, but then restored when it was established that he too had been drunk when he said that.

Franken: 'I'm Ready for Hillary'

On Tuesday's broadcast of MSNBC's "The Cycle," Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) got out in front of his Democratic colleagues and said he would support former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president, assuming she runs for the 2016 Democratic Party nomination.
Partial transcript as follows:
FRANKEN (D-MN): I think that Hillary would make a great president. I haven't announced that I'm supporting her, but -- does this count, I guess? Maybe this counts.
MELBER: Here's the question, do you need to see who all the candidates are first before you publicly endorse her?
FRANKEN: No, no. I think that, you know, I'm Ready for Hillary. I mean, I'm -- I think that -- we've not had someone this experienced, this tough, and as -- she's very, very impressive.
MELBER: It was an endorsement delivered as only Franken could.
MELBER: So, are you endorsing her today?
FRANKEN: If this is what you call an endorsement, I guess, yes. So, yes.

Obama's Unilateral Executive Actions the Most Since Truman

Barack Obama and his spokespeople have claimed he has used unilateral executive action far less than previous presidents, citing his lesser number of executive orders.
It’s not true, according to USA Today. Obama has evaded scrutiny of his massive unilateral actions by using executive memoranda instead of executive orders. The memoranda have the same power to make law as executive orders, but allow Obama to fly under the radar due to various considerations:
  1. Executive orders are numbered, memoranda are not;
  2. Executive orders are indexed, memoranda are not;
  3. Proclamations and executive orders are published in the Federal Register before memoranda;
  4. In 1962, President Kennedy issued Executive Order 11030, which stated that executive orders were required to have a "citation of authority." Memoranda do not require such a citation.
Obama and his defenders have made a habit of decrying critics ripping Obama for his unilateral actions:
Obama, July, 2014: "The truth is, even with all the actions I've taken this year, I'm issuing executive orders at the lowest rate in more than 100 years. So it's not clear how it is that Republicans didn't seem to mind when President Bush took more executive actions than I did."
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, on the floor of the Senate, July, 2014: "While Republicans accuse President Obama of executive overreach, they neglect the fact that he has issued far fewer executive orders than any two-term president in the last 50 years."
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, February 2014: "There is no question that this president has been judicious in his use of executive action, executive orders, and I think those numbers thus far have come in below what President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton did."
As of Tuesday. Obama has issued 195 executive orders and 198 presidential memoranda. Obama’s number of memoranda dwarfs his predecessors; he has signed 33% more in his six-year tenure than Bush did in eight years, and 45% more than Bill Clinton did in his eight years. The combination of orders and memoranda is the greatest since Harry Truman. Obama is the first president to sign more executive memoranda than executive orders, preserving his patina of eschewing unilateral action.
Some of the memoranda Obama has issued are quite significant, including: developing a pilot program to implement a new retirement savings account for low-income workers, instructing the Department of Education to permit various borrowers to top their student loan payments at 10% of income, forcing federal law enforcement agencies to track any firearm involved in a federal investigation, and allowing more availability of relevant executive branch records to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
That list does not include Obama’s recent forays into the immigration issue, which included supervising a transformation of the U.S. immigration system. Every single move Obama made as part of his immigration plan in November came without an executive order.
Kenneth Lowande, writing in Presidential Studies Quarterly, said,
"If you look at some of the titles of memoranda recently, they do look like and mirror executive orders." He added that memoranda elicit less notice, saying an "executive order immediately evokes potentially damaging questions of 'imperial overreach.'"
The salient point of memoranda is that they are binding on future administrations unless a future president explicitly revokes them. The Office of Legal Counsel has stated that executive memoranda and executive orders are essentially the same.
The Office of Legal Counsel itself admitted the huge number of Obama’s memoranda the very first year he was in office, asking for a 14.5% budget increase, claiming that part of the reason was "the large number of executive orders and presidential memoranda that has been issued." Obama hasn’t stopped with orders and memoranda; in the area of national security alone, he has written roughly 30 presidential policy directives, which a federal court ruled are "the functional equivalent of an executive order."

Hamas Removed From European Union Terror List by Court

The General Court of the European Union has removed Hamas from their list of terrorist organisations.
But the effect of annulling the decision to name the group on the terror list are maintained temporarily, meaning that the funding freeze against the group will remain for the three months until any appeal has been heard.
Hamas appealed the Council's Common Position back in September 2010, eight years after its military wing the Izz a-Din al-Qassam was banned by the EU’s Council of Ministers.
But after a series of suicide bombings in 2003, the organisations’s social and political divisions were included which meant all of their funds, economic resources and property rights were frozen.
Hamas put to the court that there had been a ‘manifest error of assessment, as Hamas is a legitimately elected government and…cannot be placed on a list of terrorists’.
And the court ruled that the Council made ‘procedural errors’ when it maintained Hamas on the list, basing its decision on media and internet reports rather than formal statistics and actual recordings of events. The decision today therefore annulled the inclusion of Hamas as a terrorist organisation but the suspension of the effects of that annulment gives the council time to decide what to do.
If the Council does nothing then in three months Hamas will be removed from the list permanently, meaning it will have full access to any monies, financial assets and the right to act in any commercial way it wishes so long as they comply with existing laws.
But this time period is long enough for the Council to adopt a new decision if it wished to do so.
Given the number of countries in the EU who are recognising Palestine as an independent state and the pro Palestinian movement within the European Parliament, there may be a reticence by some leaders, particularly on the left, to challenge the latest decision.
If the Council appeals this decision to the EU Court of Justice, the highest court in the European Union, then the annulment will only take effect once that appeal is closed. Currently this takes around 16-18 months.
A spokesman for the General Court told Breitbart London:
"The Court has made quite clear in its judgment and in the press release that it is not ruling on whether Hamas is a terrorist organisation. The reason for the annulment is procedural, hence the 3 month period for the Council to correct that error if it so wishes.”
The decision was condemned by Conservative MEP Charles Tannock.
"This is a wrong decision." he said. "It is plainly inappropriate given Hamas's long track record of supporting suicide bombers, the reported use of human shields, child combatants, extrajudicial executions and rocket attacks on innocent civilians. I do not believe the decision is safe either."

Andrea Mitchell Rejects Own Network's Poll Showing Americans Agree with CIA Interrogation Tactics

Andrea Mitchell apparently disagrees with her own network's polling services after dismissing a poll that shows that Americans agree with the CIA's advanced interrogation tactics.
Mitchell was on her MSNBC show on Tuesday, December 16, when the topic of the recent Senate CIA report came up. While she reported her own network's polling, she certainly didn't seem to believe it.
The poll Mitchell wasn't buying was an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released earlier that day. The poll revealed that 51 percent of respondents felt that the interrogation practices used during the Bush era were acceptable. Only 28 percent said they went too far and were wrong.
But speaking to NBC's chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel, Mitchell warned her audience against her own network's polling, saying that polling is "always an imprecise measure because of the way questions are asked."
Engel seemed to agree with Mitchell's intimation that the poll could be wrong. He told Mitchell that those who answered the poll were just responding emotionally and that they might be proven morally wrong by "history."
Then Mitchell seemed to announce her distrust of democracy itself, saying, "Should public opinion really be setting policy?"
Engel was happy to join Mitchell with the mistrust of the people, replying, "Exactly."

FBI: 199 Americans Kidnapped in Mexico in 2014

MCALLEN, Texas -- Almost 200 Americans have been kidnapped in Mexico this past year; 79 of those kidnappings took place just south of the Texas border in the Mexican State of Tamaulipas, according to an FBI interview with Breitbart Texas.
While the Mexican government continues to praise their security campaign in Tamaulipas, shootouts, kidnappings, extortions and highway robberies continue to plague the border state.
In Mexico a person is kidnapped every six hours, according to the statistics published by Mexico’sNational Citizens Observatory, a non-profit organization that keeps track of crime figures.
Breitbart Texas met with FBI Special Agent Michelle Lee who spoke about the number of kidnappings in Mexico that the agency has investigated in 2014.  While in 2006, the agency only had 26 kidnappings, so far this year the agency has looked into 199 kidnappings.
“Kidnapping for ransom remains a very rare occurrence in the United States,” Lee said.
However in Mexico, kidnapping has become a moneymaker for criminals looking to make a quick profit.
“In about fifty percent of all the kidnappings of U.S. citizens in Mexico a ransom demand is made,” Lee said.  “In those instances a financial gain is generally the motive and typically it is a crime of opportunity.”
The agent advises to avoid displaying cash or other items that could make a victim attractive to kidnappers.
Currently the U.S. Department of State has a standing travel advisory warning Americans about the security conditions in Mexico and warns them about traveling on highways at night and of the potential dangers in each state.
The FBI has a strong working relationship with Mexican federal authorities including an elite anti-kidnapping unit that has allowed the agency to solve the majority of the kidnappings in Mexico, she said.
In the other fifty percent of crimes where a ransom call is not made there is some connection with organized crime.
“In those cases you may have the victim involved in illicit activity, or the victim being related to someone who is involved or in some cases it may be a case of mistaken identity where the person targeted was in fact tied to criminal activity,” Lee said.
Regardless of the ties, the agency investigates all cases accordingly with the victim’s safety as their highest priority, she said.

Michael Moore: 'Thank U Obama' For Backing Down On Cuba

Liberal filmmaker Michael Moore congratulated Cuba this afternoon for “winning” in its ongoing struggle with the United States.
“Cuba 1, USA 0,” he wrote on Twitter. “Congrats on winning the longest game on record.”
Moore suggested that critics of President Obama’s new policy were being disingenuous.
“OK fellow Americans, let's not be sore losers!” he wrote cheerily on Twitter.
America, he asserted, was a “pissy whiny neighbor” that had finally “grown up” as a result of Obama’s signaled changes.
“Finally, another piece of crazy exits the American Way,” he said. “Cuba's pissy whiny neighbor grows up. Thank u Obama.”

Jeb Bush: 'I Have No Problems' Pushing for Amnesty Bill During GOP '16 Primary

Just hours after he announced his plan "actively explore" a 2016 presidential run on Monday, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush said he would have "no problems" pushing for comprehensive immigration reform in a GOP primary.
"We've got to protect the borders, enforce the law, be respectful of the rule of law, and at the same time be able to encourage young aspirational people to come to our county," Bush, who has said that illegal immigration is an "act of love," told a local Miami television station. "It's a win-win; I have no problems advancing that idea."

When NBC 6 mentioned that "a lot of your base disagrees with that" position, Bush replied, "We'll see. If I run, we'll see."
Though he is aware that the conservative base distrusts him because of his support for massive amnesty legislation, which would also increase the number of guest-worker permits for foreigners, and Common Core, Bush seems intent on not backing down from his more moderate positions.

ISIS Slaughters 150 Females in Iraq for Refusing to Marry, Have Sex with Them

Iraq’s Ministry of Human Rights claims the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) murdered 150 women simply because they refused to marry or perform sexual acts with the terrorists.
"At least 150 females, including pregnant women, were executed in Fallujah by a militant named Abu Anas Al-Libi after they refused to accept jihad marriage," said the Ministry. "Many families were also forced to migrate from the province’s northern town of Al-Wafa after hundreds of residents received death threats."
The militants buried the victims in mass graves in the city. The families who left lost many children after they were stranded in the desert.
The Islamic State slaughtered over 50 people from the Al Bu Nimr tribe in Iraq’s Anbar Province on November 2. The massacre included six women and four children. Witnesses said the militants lined up the victims, whom they "publicly killed one by one." Over seventeen people were kidnapped, as well. Militants murdered 98 people from the same tribe 24-48 hours before the massacre. The tribe is Sunni, which holds the same belief of Islam as the Islamic State, but now, they view the tribe as a threat.
Militants claim they adhere to a very conservative interpretation of Islam, yet they run brothels and keep sex slaves. They even allow women from the West to perform "sexual jihad" for the terrorists. A 2013 edict allows this behavior "to boost the morale of fighters." Islamic State issued its own edict in June after conquering towns in Iraq. Jihadists set up brothels filled with kidnapped females and placed British women in charge. One Yazidi sex slave begged the West to bomb the brothel at which she was held to end her suffering. A video in November showed militants laughing and joking about buying female Yazidi slaves.

Is Cyberattack on Sony Disruptive Enough to Constitute an Act of War Against US?

The government of North Korea's suspected involvement in the cyberattack against Sony Pictures Entertainment has not been officially confirmed.
North Korea is suspected of hacking Sony in retaliation for an American comedy film about a fictional assassination attempt on leader Kim Jong Un.
Mike Rogers (R-MI), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, recently told the Los Angeles Times that North Korea is likely behind the Sony hacking scandal and federal investigators are getting close to confirming that.
Kim Masters, the editor-at-large for The Hollywood Reporter, in an appearance on CNN, echoed Rogers comments, saying North Korea is likely the culprit, adding that Sony refuses to admit it.
Does the Hacking of Sony Constitute an Act of War?
According to definitions by both the White House and the Pentagon, a cyberattack emanating from a foreign country constitutes an act of war.
The White House’s cyberspace strategy mentions:
States have an inherent right to self-defense that may be triggered by certain aggressive acts in cyberspace….When warranted, the United States will respond to hostile acts in cyberspace as we would to any other threat to our country All states possess an inherent right to self-defense, and we recognize that certain hostile acts conducted through cyberspace could compel actions under the commitments we have with our military treaty partners We reserve the right to use all necessary means—diplomatic, informational, military, and economic—as appropriate and consistent with applicable international law, in order to defend our Nation, our allies, our partners, and our interests.
The unclassified version of the Pentagon’s cyber strategy states:
The Department will work with interagency and international partners to encourage responsible behavior and oppose those who would seek to disrupt networks and systems, dissuade and deter malicious actors, and reserve the right to defend these vital national assets as necessary and appropriate.
Three unnamed defense officials who read the classified version of the strategy told The Wall Street Journal in May 2011 that “it concludes that the Laws of Armed Conflict—derived from various treaties and customs that, over the years, have come to guide the conduct of war and proportionality of response—apply in cyberspace as in traditional warfare.”
Both the White House and the Pentagon list intellectual property and identity theft as a form of cyber crime.
However, they do not spell out when a cyberattack is serious enough to constitute an act of war.
The Wall Street Journal's May 2011 article mentioned that “one idea gaining momentum at the Pentagon is the notion of ‘equivalence.’ If a cyber attack produces the death, damage, destruction or high-level disruption that a traditional military attack would cause, then it would be a candidate for a ‘use of force’ consideration, which could merit retaliation.”
David Inserra, a research associate for homeland security and cybersecurity at The Heritage Foundation, told Breitbart News that the Sony cyberattack is not disruptive enough to merit an act of war or an act of cyber terrorism label.
“This is an example of a cyber crime,” he said. “They stole something just as when credit card information was stolen in the Target hack.”
Sony hackers stole unreleased movies, which they later leaked. They also obtained and released salary information and Social Security numbers for thousands of Sony employees, including celebrities.
North Korea has denied any involvement in the hacking Sony, but has hailed the attack as a “righteous deed," reports BBC.
Moreover, the communist country has warned that releasing the American comedy, The Interview, would amount to an “act of war," the Associated Press reports.
America will face “stern” and “merciless” retaliation if the American government does not block the movie’s release, an unidentified spokesman for North Korea's Foreign Ministry said in state media, according to AP.

Cruz: Cuba Deal 'Continues the Brutal Repression and Dictatorship'

Sen.
Ted Cruz (R-TX) said that President Obama's freeing of Cuban spies and push to normalize relations with the island "continues the brutal repression and dictatorship of the Castro Brothers" on Wednesday's "Your World with Neil Cavuto" on the Fox News Channel.

"First, it was Russia, then it was Iran, now it's Cuba. this announcement today will be remembered as a tragic mistake. you know, Cuba was struggling, it was gasping, gasping for air. It has been relying on Venezuela. With oil prices cratering, Venezuela is hurting economically and just like the administration did with Iran, right when the administration was feeling the maximum pain, it throws them an economic lifeline and continues the brutal repression and dictatorship of the Castro Brothers" he stated.

Cruz continued that increased money flowing into the island "enriches and empowers the dictatorship...Cuba is an ally of North Korea. It is an ally of Iran. It is an ally of Venezuela. It is an avowed enemy of this country. It was striking the president's remarks, he talked about the Bay of Pigs invasion, but somehow completely omitted the Cuban Missile Crisis, somehow completely
omitted an incredible threat to
U.S. national security...and it was sad to see both the president and John Kerry essentially blame America first. Blame America for the relation[ship] between the United States and Cuba. Look, the Castros are the ones who have decided to be brutal, reppressive dictators. And we should not be taking blame for the fact that we responded to their active acts of war and hostility. They are a leading state sponsor of terrorism, and just like President Obama did with Russia, just like President Obama did with Iran he does not understand the difference between our friends and our enemies."

He added that the swap for American Alan Gross was "reminiscent" of the Bowe Bergdahl swap, and accused President Obama of favoring "a position of weakness" and trying to push back against the midterm election results by acting unilaterally.

In segment of an interview that aired on ABC’s “World News” on Wednesday, President Barack Obama reacted to the alleged that cyber-attack, which had been confirmed by U.S. officials by ABC News on Sony from North Korea in what appears to be the reaction to the movie “The Interview.”
Obama explained that the cyber-attack was “serious,” but he encouraged people to go to the movies despite the threats on theaters that would have shown the now-canceled Christmas Day release of the film.
“Well, the cyber-attack is very serious,” Obama said. “We’re investigating it. We’re taking it seriously. You know, we'll be vigilant. If we see something that we think is serious and credible, then we'll alert the public, but for now, my recommendation would be that people go to the movies.”

Americans View of Race Relations is Worst in Two Decades

Despite, or perhaps because of Barack Obama being in the White House - many feel he's done more harm than good to race relations in America - an NBC News/ Wall Street Journal poll "showed the most pessimistic assessment of racial issues in almost two decades."
A majority of Americans, 57% now say they are bad.
In the wake of protests over the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police, just four in ten Americans told pollsters that they believe race relations in the United States are "good," while 57 percent disagreed. And nearly a quarter - 23 percent - classified the current state of the country's racial issues as "very bad.
The data showed a dramatic slide from just 18 months ago, when a July 2013 poll indicated that a majority - 52 percent - offered an optimistic view of race relations. And throughout President Barack Obama's first term in the White House, more than seven in ten Americans said race relations were good, with a record 77 percent giving a positive assessment shortly after Obama's election as the first black president.

Juan Williams: Cuba Deal 'Pig in a Poke,' 'Nothing There'

Fox News Analyst and columnist for The Hill, Juan Williams, argued that the deal the Obama administration cut with the government of Cuba was "a pig in a poke" and that "there is nothing there" on Wednesday's "Special Report" on the Fox News Channel.
"The United States got sold a pig in a poke, there is nothing there" he said. And "there is no reason for the United States to reward these despots in any way without paying attention to the human rights, to the freedom of the press, in those countries. And to me, it's worrisome that we would do this...you need to have some sense of a guarantee."
