The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports 23-year-old Olajuwon Ali Davis and 24-year-old Brandon Orlando Baldwin each pleaded guilty to multiple explosive and gun related charges in federal court today. Federal agents who tracked the duo’s conversations by phone and text message say they planned to target Robert McCulloch, the prosecutor who handled the Michael Brown grand jury, and Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson. The plot involved blowing up cars using remotely triggered bombs and also using bombs to blow up a police station.
The men were arrested last November after paying an undercover federal agent a total of $250 to purchase what they believed were three pipe bombs. Davis put up $100 and then paid another $150 three days later, when he met the agent to pick up his bombs. Baldwin said he was broke and needed to wait for his unemployment check to come in before he could contribute. In addition to buying the “bombs,” Davis and Baldwin bought guns which they intended to give to like-minded individuals in order to “be like an army.”
Davis and Baldwin were arrested just days before Prosecutor McCulloch announced no charges would be filed against Officer Wilson in the death of Michael Brown. The St. Louis Post-Dispatchreports U.S. Attorney Richard Callahan mentioned the timing in a statement, “The disruption of this plot, coming as it did on the eve of the expected grand jury announcement, undoubtedly saved lives. Luckily for all of us, we’ll never know just how many.”
When word of the charges were initially announced, the New Black Panther Party put out a statement which concluded, “We believe the charges against Olajuwon Ali and Brandon Muhammad to be trumped up and baseless; and believe that the two men will be cleared/vindicated of any alleged wrong doing.” The statement also distanced the NBPP from acts of violence, saying, “We make clear the New Black Panther Party, does not condone and distances itself from all illegal actions or acts of terror aimed at coercing individuals through violent means; for political reasons or otherwise!”

'Ferguson Effect': New Crime Wave Hits Democrat-Run Cities

Seven cities were worthy of note. To no one’s surprise, all seven of those cities are run by Democrats. With the exception of New York City, Democrats have enjoyed one-party rule in these cities for decades. [emphasis is mine]:
Gun violence is up more than 60% compared with this time last year, according toBaltimore police, with 32 shootings over Memorial Day weekend. May has been the most violent month the city has seen in 15 years.
The last Baltimore Republican mayor left office in 1967.
In Milwaukee, homicides were up 180% by May 17 over the same period the previous year. Through April, shootings in St. Louis were up 39%, robberies 43%, and homicides 25%. “Crime is the worst I’ve ever seen it,” said St. Louis Alderman Joe Vacarro at a May 7 City Hall hearing.
Milwaukee’s last Republican mayor left office in 1906.
The last Republican mayor of St, Louis left office in 1949.
Murders in Atlanta were up 32% as of mid-May. Shootings in Chicago had increased 24% and homicides 17%. Shootings and other violent felonies in Los Angeles had spiked by 25%; in New York, murder was up nearly 13%, and gun violence 7%.
Democrat mayors have run Atlanta since 1942.
Chicago hasn’t seen a Republican mayor since 1931.
Rudy Giuliani, the first Republican mayor of New York in nearly 30 years, cleaned up the city. He left office in 2001. The crime spike in that city can be directly connected to Bill de Blasio, who campaigned in 2013 on ending Guiliani’s (and Michael Bloomberg’s) most effective policing techniques.
Those citywide statistics from law-enforcement officials mask even more startling neighborhood-level increases. Shooting incidents are up 500% in an East Harlem [New York] precinct compared with last year; in a South Central Los Angeles police division, shooting victims are up 100%.
Los Angeles hasn’t seen a Republican mayor in 22 years.
The Wall Street Journal calls this spike in crime “The Ferguson Effect.” After two years of Barack Obama, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton, and the mainstream media waging a relentlessly dishonest hate campaign against law enforcement (starting with the Trayvon Martin lies and leading straight through to the serial lies surrounding Michael Brown), fearing media and political persecution, some law enforcement officers are understandably less proactive and aggressive, while criminals have been emboldened.
The obvious and predictable result is a rise in violent crime that only hurts predominantly poor, black, inner-city neighborhoods.
The rise in crime is, of course, all part of the Left’s Cloward-Piven strategy to further empower central government, and the elite few who benefit from it, by stoking despair and fear — which only increases dependence on the same federal government intentionally causing the problem.
The fact that this rise in crime is occurring in seven out of seven cities currently run by Democrats is no accident.
If these were all Republican-run cities, you can bet the media would have connected the political dots to this sudden increase in violent crime. The fact that the media has chosen not to is also no accident.

James Mattis: U.S. suffering 'strategic atrophy' that says 'we're pulling back' to allies

Retired Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis said the U.S. is suffering “strategic atrophy” that will threaten the long-term security of the nation.
The retired general and former Central Command (CENTCOM) commander made the remarks while speaking at the Heritage Foundation, a prominent conservative think tank in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.
“The perception [among allies] is we’re pulling back,” Gen. Mattis said, the U.S. Naval Institutereported Thursday.

The conversation with Gen. Mattis covered a variety of topics, including Russian President Vladimir Putin’s desire “to break NATO apart,” to China, which “is doing a pretty good job of finding friction points between our allies,” USNI reported.
Gen. Mattis praised the United Arab Emirates and Jordan for aiding the U.S. coalition in its fight against the Islamic State group. He added that he has “no doubt” that any foreign policy missteps can be rectified with the right leadership.
Mr. Obama defended his administration’s policy as anything but “strategic atrophy” in January during his State of the Union address.
“We’re demonstrating the power of American strength and diplomacy. We’re upholding the principle that bigger nations can’t bully the small — by opposing Russian aggression, and supporting Ukraine’s democracy, and reassuring our NATO allies,” Mr. Obama said Jan. 20.
The president also told the nation “We lead best when we combine military power with strong diplomacy; when we leverage our power with coalition building; when we don’t let our fears blind us to the opportunities that this new century presents. That’s exactly what we’re doing right now. And around the globe, it is making a difference.”

Ex-CIA spy blasts 'lousy' Obama terror strategy: 'It's very safe politically'

An ex-CIA spy says the
Obama administration has done a “lousy” strategy to combat global terrorism because its “waging the war they want to fight but not the one that will lead to success.”
Henry “Hank” Crumpton, who joined the CIA in 1981 and served as deputy director of the CIA Counterterrorism Center from 1999 to 2001, said part of the president’s problem is that his approach to dealing with terror threats is “very safe politically,” The Hill cia-spy-obama-doing-lousy-job-in-fight-against-isis?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter” target=”_blank”>reported Tuesday. “They want to control everything in Washington.”
Mr. Crumpton told the newspaper that a “watershed moment” for the Obama administration came when the “red line” he established for Syrian President Bashar Assad regarding chemical weapons was crossed and U.S. airstrikes did not follow.

“I had several foreign friends, senior officials in allied governments, just express first disbelief then disgust. Their reaction to that was, was really I think enduring. That hasn’t gone away,” Mr. Crumptonsaid, The Hill reported.
The ex-CIA spy said that if the White House wants a successful model for dealing with terror threats, then it will adopt a strategy that employs a strong intelligence presence on the ground.
“It really is a question of deep intelligence and empathy,” he said, the newspaper reported. “When 9/11 happened, we had 100 clandestine sources throughout Afghanistan. We had built those networks. Now, in comparison, we had two predator drones in the air in Benghazi.”

Unmanned Aircraft Remains Future of Military Engagements

Autonomous aircraft and unmanned military drones are the future of global military engagements, U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus said Tuesday at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI).
Unmanned is “the future of warfare,” Mabus said. “We are doing a lot of [exciting] stuff.”
At a time when the Navy and Marine Corps are putting more men and women in areas they have never sent them to, future of the military still relies on what the Navy refers to as Unmanned Carrier Launched Airborne Surveillance and Strike (UCLASS), or unmanned vehicles.
The UCLASS system, Mabus said, will act as “a bridge between today” and what he referred to as “autonomous strike packages,” achieving the reliability and decision-making results of a manned strike, minus the man or woman.
The Northrop Grumman X-47B, or Unmanned Combat Air System (UCAS), made history in April 2015 by completing the first-ever fully autonomous aerial refueling of a UCLASS vehicle.
Mabus also addressed the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps combined budget, $170 billion, which remains one of the largest in military history despite efforts to cut costs via renewable energy pursuits and competitive business strategies in manufacturing. UCLASS serves as an extension of the budgetary approach he brought to the Navy in 2009.
“The good news is that [unmanned] is relatively cheap and easy to do,” Mabus said. “The bad news is that it is relatively cheap and easy to do—we aren’t the only ones working on this.”
Mabus said the Navy and Marine Corps remain as targets for further audit and budgetary cutbacks.
“I think we should take a look at whether we need certain functions,” Mabus said, in reference to a particular utility, Defense Finance and Accounting Services (or DFAS), which charges the Navy and Marine Corps nearly $300 million to manage their paycheck disbursement.
“The services shouldn’t be immune [either] … the world is getting smaller, quicker, and cheaper, the world with the exception of the Department of Defense.”
Mabus advocated for continuing spending in specific areas of production, aiming to reduce the impact of any budget constraints on ship manufacturing that occurs at shipyards such as Huntington Ingalls in Mississippi, where Mabus once served as governor.
The U.S. Navy currently operates its smallest fleet since World War I, with just 274 active warships by definition of the Pentagon. This comes despite new ship building increasing dramatically during the tenure of Mabus.
“I’m going to protect shipbuilding, regardless of what happens in the budget.”
Mabus stressed the importance of U.S. maritime forces, particularly in light of recent events far outreaching the immediate action of ground forces.
“We are America’s away team,” Mabus said. “You have to have that presence to give the leaders options.”
