A Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy Type 052C Luyang II-class destroyer challenged the US Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Decatur during a routine freedom-of-navigation operation near the disputed Spratly Islands.

Russian spooks in the UK have rocketed fivefold in just eight years, amid fears 200 “case offices” have been tasked with controlling as many as 500 agents, the report claims. Report author espionage expert Dr Andrew Foxall revealed how up to half the 150,000 Russian expats here could be “informants” for the Kremlin – amounting to 75,000 potential “assets”. Dozens are believed to have links to spy agencies including the FSB, which replaced the KGB, and the GRU, suspected to be behind the Salisbury Novichok poisoning. And up to 50% of Russian Embassy diplomats are also actively engaged in intelligence work, Dr Foxall said in his report, from think tank the Henry Jackson Society.
