Police in Turkey broke up a gay pride celebration in Istanbul Sunday with water guns and rubber bullets.
An annual gay pride celebration has been held in Istanbul for years and it is not immediately clear why police wanted to break up the celebration, Reuters reports.
Some speculated that conservative Muslim officials took issue with the event because it fell during the month of Ramadan this year. Homosexuality isn’t illegal in Turkey, but many in the predominately Muslim country still don’t approve of gays and lesbians.
The pride event was held in Istanbul’s Taksim Square, a large public gathering place that has been home to protests against the Turkish government. The Agence France-Presse reported that police targeted the crowd after hearing slogans accusing President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of engaging in “fascism.”
The violence captured the attention of some high profile figures in the U.S., where Pride Week celebrations are also under way:

Media Silent on Black Obama Supporter Who Waged ‘Civil War’ on Asian Women by The European Union Times
With racial tensions at an all time high, it’s curious the corporate media has remained virtually silent on the death of an internet blogger suspected of brutally attacking several Asian women in Manhattan over the past month.
The body of Tyrell Shaw, 25, the black man who ran a blog called “Mr. Talented,” was found Monday, dead from an apparent suicide.
An apartment landlord said he found Shaw’s body at the bottom of an elevator shaft outfitted in what appeared to be a silver space suit.
Police suspect Shaw was responsible for several recent racist attacks that targeted Asian women in the area.
On his blog, Shaw indicated he intended to wage a “civil war” on Asian women after being rejected numerous times.
“By starting an independent civil war where I will hit over a million Asian Women [sic] in the face with a stick will change history,” the blogger bizarrely stated on his site.
“So I think its [sic] brilliant to give all Asian Women a legitimate reason to hate me.”
In a blog post, Shaw says he had come to the conclusion that Asian women “would never take me serious, because of the color of my skin.”
“In less than 350 days, I talked to nearly 1500 Asian Women and none of them took time out of their day to say hello,” Shaw states. “I became furious. I never agreed with violence, but I knew the only way I could overcome that sense of rejection-would start by assaulting the Women that carelessly rejected me.”
“Suddenly,” Shaw continues, “I assumed the ones that I am attracted to use cocaine so I decided to play a game. Bash Asian Women in the Nose so that they could stop sniffing cocaine and give me a chance” – a practice he deemed “The Nose Game” in a likely reference to the notorious “knockout game.”
According to police, Shaw launched his first “nose game” attack on June 10 when he followed a 35-year-old woman into Chinatown and asked her “Who is the president of the United States?”
“When she didn’t respond, police said, he walked away, then returned with a white plastic bag containing a hard object and hit her in the face,” reports NBC New York.
From their report:
About four hours later, a 29-year-old Asian woman was walking down Park Avenue near East 30th Street when the suspect walked past her and waited at the corner, police said. He hit her in the face with the bag when she reached the corner; she was treated at a hospital and released.
Two days later, on June 12, the same suspect attacked a 34-year-old woman walking near Second Avenue and East 60th Street. As in the earlier cases, he walked up to her, armed with the white bag containing the hard object, and bashed her in the forehead. She also was treated at a hospital.
The woman in that case said the man spoke to her, saying, “All Asian girls doesn’t talk to me,” the victim told NBC 4 New York. She said he complained he could never get their phone numbers; she said she ignored him.
“And then, just after next second, he just hit my face,” the woman said.
She said she chased the man after the attack, but stopped when she realized she was covered in blood. The woman needed 10 stitches to close a gash above her eye. She said the wound is so painful that she can’t work.
One of Shaw’s last posts stated he would tie a noose to the bottom of an elevator and wait for someone to push the button “so that its [sic] not considered a practical suicide. This is actually murder. Thank you. I love you.”
On his blog, Shaw is photographed with numerous celebrities, including comedians Aziz Ansari and Tracy Morgan, actor Russell Crowe and TV’s Judge Judy.
Police say they’d had numerous run-ins with the blogger, and residents of the building where Shaw was found dead said he’d been squatting in one of the building’s closets for up to six months.
With the leftist establishment media attempting to stoke racial tensions by highlighting attacks on black Americans by whites, it’s interesting to note they’ve turned a blind eye on this story, which doesn’t neatly fit their race war-igniting initiative.
