The Latest: Police: 3 dead, 7 hurt in movie theater shooting
Is Donald Trump the great political unifier we’ve all been waiting for?
For years now we’ve heard about the divisive and unproductive rhetoric plaguing progress in Washington.
There may finally be an antidote: Donald Trump.
That’s right. Hear us out.
Trump as bulldozer, plowing down anyone who dare stand in his path, has created a common villain in this early chapter of the presidential campaign. Democrats and Republicans still do not agree on virtually any policy issues, but they are unified in their condemnation of Trump’s bombast.
Hillary Clinton, Marco Rubio, Bernie Sanders, Lindsey Graham, Huffington Post, Wall Street Journal. They are among the long list of Trump critics. A list that after last weekend has grown.
Republicans were slow to confront Trump after his incendiary remarks about Mexican immigrants last month. But after he attacked one of their own on Saturday — questioning Sen. John McCain’s heroism as a prisoner of war in Vietnam — there’s broad (though not universal, see: Ted Cruz) agreement that for whatever harsh commentary has taken over Washington in recent years Trump’s is beyond the pale.
Clinton rebuked Trump for insulting a “genuine war hero.” (Though she did get in a dig at the rest of the GOP field for not rushing to criticize Trump sooner.)

Graham called on voters in the early primary states to tell Trump, “You’re fired.”
The Huffington Post moved its coverage of Trump to its entertainment section. The Wall Street Journal, in a damning editorial, called Trump’s campaign “nonsense.”
Still, Trump is tapping into a real frustration among a sect of the American electorate that is sick of Washington politicians. And until Trump implodes, Cruz is not co-sponsoring the denounce Trump movement. Cruz, though nowhere near Trump’s level, is familiar with being the outcast who rallies other politicians in bipartisan unity. (Remember the moderate GOP revolt after the 2013 government shutdown?)
And, to underscore the lengths to which politicians are expressing their Trump disgust, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) assessed Cruz’s continued support for the candidate this way:
Okay, so that’s pretty partisan.
But generally, Trump has achieved what so many promise but so few deliver: across-party-aisle agreement.

Unlike most GOP competitors in the 2016 White House race, Ted Cruz is not shying away from Donald Trump after the business mogul's controversial comments. In fact, the Texas senator said he "saluted" the "Apprentice" star for tackling immigration, CNBC reported.
Trump made headlines by saying that Mexico brings drug dealers, criminals and rapists to the United States -- comments that caused widespread backlash in the Latino community. But Cruz, one of two Latino candidates in the party's increasingly crowded field of presidential contenders, told the business channel that journalists were to blame for the upheaval.
"Sometimes it seems there's no sport that the media enjoys more than Republican-on-Republican violence," the senator noted. "Policy disagreements are meant to be the bread and butter of politics. I don't think it's appropriate to impugn the integrity of other candidates, and I don't intend to do so."
The two candidates met on Wednesday for nearly an hour and vowed that they would not let the often bloody primary season get in the way of their friendship, ABC News noted.
"He's running, and I'm running, and we both agreed that we started out as friends and we'll end as friends," Cruz insisted. "You know, Donald and I have gotten together and visited a number of times before he was a presidential candidate and it was good to visit."
Trump was "one of a kind" and their meeting "terrific," the Texan judged. He insisted that he had not asked for the TV personality's presidential endorsement.
CBS News, meanwhile, commented that Trump had "pulled off an amazing feat" by keeping himself in the news during a summer filled with headline-grabbing events, including major Supreme Court decisions and the shooting in Charleston, South Carolina.
"He has also gotten nearly every other Republican in the 2016 GOP race to talk about his candidacy, rather than their own," the network noted.
But Republican strategist John Feehery still believes the phenomenon will be short-lived. "Will there be long term impact for the Republican Party? I don't think so, mostly because our nominee's not going to be Donald Trump," he said.

Republican strategist and president of QGA Public Affairs John Feehery says Trump is "killing Cruz's thunder."
He and other Republican insiders believe Trump has effectively stolen the senator's populist rhetoric and repeated it in a less sophisticated but more appealing manner.
"He is saying the exact same things as Cruz except he says them with more flair and more credibility as a non-politician," Feehery told the Washington Examiner.
Jeffrey Lord, contributing editor to the American Spectator, recently wrote that "when a serious chunk of the conservative base of the Republican Party looks at the Washington GOP Establishment, they see not conservatives, but Insiders."

Former McCain campaign aide Ford O'Connell says that kind of relatability has allowed Trump to steal Cruz's spotlight "particularly among white working class workers who are looking for a fighter."
However, O'Connell notes that Cruz is "not blind to this at all."
"He is providing guarded compliments to Trump because he knows that the Trump balloon is going to bust and he wants to ensure that he's there to take his place when it does," O'Connell told theExaminer.
"Both men are battling for the same set of core supporters and at this stage, if Trump does eventually bow out, he would most likely support Cruz," O'Connell said.

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Trump admitted that he is unsure why Cruz has requested that the two candidates meet.
"Ted Cruz called me and I don't know why I'm meeting him, to be honest, but I do have a lot of respect for him," Trump told host Joe Scarborough.
Neither campaign returned the Examiner's request for comment, but a spokesperson for Cruz recently announced that the senator has partnered with a data-analyzing company to try to expand his message using "the most extensive grassroots program in American history."
Despite The Donald's unparalleled personality and strong performance in the polls, O'Connell says Cruz could still benefit in the long run and that the meeting could be Cruz's attempt to cozy up to the billionaire business mogul in case Trump doesn't go much further in the race.
"Trump's rise could be beneficial to Cruz because the question is: How long is Trump going to last as a candidate?" O'Connell said.

Федеральная трасса "Байкал". Горящая фура, в нескольких метрах от нее — искореженный пассажирский автобус. Это был утренний рейс из Красноярска в город Шарипово. Пожарные сбивают пламя, медики оказывают помощь. К месту ДТП сразу вылетел вертолет санавиации — для эвакуации пострадавших с тяжелыми травмами в Красноярскую краевую клиническую больницу.
"В автобусе находилось 43 человека, в том числе 5 детей. Погибло 9 человек, которые находились в автобусе, и два человека, которые находились в грузовой машине", - сообщил официальный представитель ГУ МВД по Красноярскому краю Владимир Юрченко.
33 человека доставлены в ближайшие районные больницы. Переломы, закрытые и открытые черепно-мозговые травмы, ожоги, кровотечения.
"Пациенты разного возраста. В Ачинской межрайонной больнице находятся трое пострадавших детей, двое из них в реанимации", - сообщил руководитель центра травматологии краевой клинической больницы Алексей Лубнин.
В фуре находились два человека: водитель и сменщик. Оба погибли.
На месте работает следственно-оперативная группа. Как произошло ДТП и по чьей вине, выясняется. О причине аварии следователи пока не говорят. Автобус находится на полосе встречного движения. Каким образом он там оказался, будет установлено в ходе доследственной проверки.
В Следственном управлении СКР по Красноярскому краю выяснили, что попавший в ДТП автобус принадлежит той же фирме, что и разбившийся 9 июля. Тогда погибли 11 человек. На автотранспортном предприятии следователи сегодня изымают документацию.
ДТП в Красноярском крае - в России второе крупное за минувшие сутки. Другая страшная авария в Чеченской республике. Накануне микроавтобус, полный людей, слетел в пропасть. Глубина обрыва на этом участке горной дороги - более ста метров. На месте погибли 9 человек. Позже еще двое скончались в больнице.
"Из-за того, что горная местность, или водитель не среагировал, или помешали какие-то другие условия. Пока мы сказать ничего не можем. Самое главное, что все пострадавшие извлечены и находятся в лечебных учреждениях", - сказал первый заместитель начальника главного управления МЧС РФ по Чеченской республике Исмаил Тутаев.
Все пассажиры - жители дагестанского села Анди Ботлихского района. Они ехали из Хасавюрта. Были на похоронах родственника. До дома оставалось 15 километров, когда "газель" упала в пропасть. Сколько после падения пролежала машина, точно неизвестно. В службу спасения в половине восьмого вечера позвонил пастух, который увидел лежащую в пропасти "газель".
В больнице - 6 человек, в том числе один ребенок. Водитель находится в тяжелом состоянии. Следователи выясняют причину аварии: почему водитель не справился с управлением — превысил скорость, заснул за рулем или же из-за технической неисправности.
23 июля сразу в двух регионах - в Дагестане и Красноярском крае — объявлено днем траура.

Две крупных аварии унесли десятки жизней. В Красноярском крае лоб в лоб столкнулись автобус и грузовик. В списке жертв - 11 человек, 43 пострадали. Среди них пятеро детей — их состояние оценивается как стабильное. А вот за жизнь двухлетнего мальчика, который получил тяжелые травмы в ДТП в Чеченской республике, сейчас борются врачи. Его мама и еще 10 человек, находившихся в салоне маршрутки, погибли. "Газель" рухнула в пропасть.
Федеральная трасса "Байкал". Горящая фура, в нескольких метрах от нее — искореженный пассажирский автобус. Это был утренний рейс из Красноярска в город Шарипово. Пожарные сбивают пламя, медики оказывают помощь. К месту ДТП сразу вылетел вертолет санавиации — для эвакуации пострадавших с тяжелыми травмами в Красноярскую краевую клиническую больницу.
"В автобусе находилось 43 человека, в том числе 5 детей. Погибло 9 человек, которые находились в автобусе, и два человека, которые находились в грузовой машине", - сообщил официальный представитель ГУ МВД по Красноярскому краю Владимир Юрченко.
33 человека доставлены в ближайшие районные больницы. Переломы, закрытые и открытые черепно-мозговые травмы, ожоги, кровотечения.
"Пациенты разного возраста. В Ачинской межрайонной больнице находятся трое пострадавших детей, двое из них в реанимации", - сообщил руководитель центра травматологии краевой клинической больницы Алексей Лубнин.
В фуре находились два человека: водитель и сменщик. Оба погибли.
На месте работает следственно-оперативная группа. Как произошло ДТП и по чьей вине, выясняется. О причине аварии следователи пока не говорят. Автобус находится на полосе встречного движения. Каким образом он там оказался, будет установлено в ходе доследственной проверки.
В Следственном управлении СКР по Красноярскому краю выяснили, что попавший в ДТП автобус принадлежит той же фирме, что и разбившийся 9 июля. Тогда погибли 11 человек. На автотранспортном предприятии следователи сегодня изымают документацию.
ДТП в Красноярском крае - в России второе крупное за минувшие сутки. Другая страшная авария в Чеченской республике. Накануне микроавтобус, полный людей, слетел в пропасть. Глубина обрыва на этом участке горной дороги - более ста метров. На месте погибли 9 человек. Позже еще двое скончались в больнице.
"Из-за того, что горная местность, или водитель не среагировал, или помешали какие-то другие условия. Пока мы сказать ничего не можем. Самое главное, что все пострадавшие извлечены и находятся в лечебных учреждениях", - сказал первый заместитель начальника главного управления МЧС РФ по Чеченской республике Исмаил Тутаев.
Все пассажиры - жители дагестанского села Анди Ботлихского района. Они ехали из Хасавюрта. Были на похоронах родственника. До дома оставалось 15 километров, когда "газель" упала в пропасть. Сколько после падения пролежала машина, точно неизвестно. В службу спасения в половине восьмого вечера позвонил пастух, который увидел лежащую в пропасти "газель".
В больнице - 6 человек, в том числе один ребенок. Водитель находится в тяжелом состоянии. Следователи выясняют причину аварии: почему водитель не справился с управлением — превысил скорость, заснул за рулем или же из-за технической неисправности.
23 июля сразу в двух регионах - в Дагестане и Красноярском крае — объявлено днем траура.
