Pacific Rim has been introducing as to the film’s Jaegers (giant robots) this week, withRussia’s Cherno Alpha and Japan’s Coyote Tango. Now it’s China’s turn with Crimson Typhoon.
Guillermo Del Toro directs this sci-fi action-thriller, which is set 15 years after enormous kaiju monsters began attacking Earth from some sort of portal deep in the Pacific. This leads each major country to build their own gigantic robot known as a jaeger, to combat these nefarious beasts.
It certainly suggests the film will be about countries coming together and putting their differences aside to take on a common threat.
Pacific Rim comes to theaters July 12th, 2013 and stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, Diego Klattenhoff, Burn Gorman and Robert Kazinsky.

PHOTOS: If you don’t know Ray Petri, he was the iconic designer/stylist behind Buffalo, the 80s-era fashion aesthetic that combined tribal wear, costume and couture with a punk attitude. (Hot, right?)
Photographer Lorenzo Marcucci recently honored Petri with “Murder! Buffalo. A Tribute,” a photo series featuring a bevy of hot models, several sporting little more than hats and underwear.
From the looks of these bad-ass pics, we’re on board with bringing back the Buffalo Boy.
Head over to The Underwear Expert for a look at the full photo series.

We honored Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear as Badass of the Week for vetoing a bill on Friday that would have allowed individuals to ignore almost any state law that conflicted with their religious convictions.
But then the Kentucky Legislature went and made itself a nominee for Douche of the Week by overriding that veto on Tuesday.
House Bill 279 protects “sincerely held religious beliefs” from being infringed upon unless there is “a compelling governmental interest.” (Translation: Expect a lot of lawsuits.) The measure has clear implications for LGBT Kentuckians, who could be fired or evicted under the mask of religious freedom.
“I value and cherish our rights to religious freedom and I appreciate the good intentions of House Bill 279,” said Beshear when he vetoed the bill. “However, I have significant concerns that this bill will cause serious unintentional consequences that could threaten public safety, health care and individuals’ civil rights.”

A few months ago Hugh Grant agreed to take some time off fighting the press to actually star in a movie, which Marc Lawrence will direct (incidentally, Lawrence has never helmed a movie that didn’t star Hugh). Now he’s got some company, as THR reports that J.K. Simmons and Chris Elliott have joined Hugh Grant, Marisa Tomei, Bella Heathcote and Allison Janney in the currently untitled comedy.
The film is about Ray Michaels (Grant), who in 1998 was on top of the world – a witty, sexy, Englishman in Hollywood who had just won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Fifteen years later, he’s creatively washed up, divorced, and broke. With no other options, he takes a job teaching screenwriting at a small college on the East Coast. Although the idea of teaching is less than thrilling, he hopes to make some easy money and enjoy the favours of impressionable young co-eds. What he doesn’t expect to find is romance with a single mom (Tomei) who’s gone back to school.
Simmons will portray Dr. Lerner, Chairman of the University’s English department, a family man who takes Michaels under his wing. Elliott meanwhile will portray Jim, a Shakespeare professor and next-door neighbour to Michaels, in search of that certain someone.
The film will begin shooting in New York in April.

Back in 2004 Arkansas voters overwhelmingly approved a measure amending the state constitution to ban civil unions and define marriage as only between one man and one woman.
But just in case we didn’t get the message, the Arkansas House of Representatives just passed a resolution on Wednesday reaffirming its opposition to marriage equality and support for the Defense of Marriage Act.
Seriously, the resolution “affirming traditional marriage” has no power: It’s just a “get well soon” card for discrimination, even as the Supreme Court considers ruling DOMA unconstitutional.
It’s nice to know Arkansas lawmakers have so much time on their hands that they can spend it patting themselves on the back for being bigots.

Kick-ass team Matthew Vaughn and Mark Millar have been planning to get back together for The Secret Service since 2011, but it’s only now that it’s really moving forward, with the news that 20th Century Fox has closed a deal to distribute the movie, with an August shoot planned, according to Deadline.
The film is based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ comic book, which follows a veteran Secret Service agent who is tasked with training his young nephew while trying to solve a case involving missing sci-fi stars, the murder of every single person in a small town, and a dark secret involving Mount Everest.
Matthew Vaughn wrote the adapted screenplay with Jane Goldman. Fox is putting the project on the fast track, in hopes of getting production started this August.
It also shows that Fox must like being in the Vaughn business, as you might have expected them to be frustrated with his when he dropped out of directing X-Men: Days of Future Past fairly late in development. However they kept him on as a producer and are now backing The Secret Service.

James Wan, director of Saw and Insidious, is hoping to creep us out again this summer with The Conjuring, and now a new poster has been released featuring a noose hanging in a garden. Anyone who’s seen Sinister will be wondering whether they’re trying to be reminiscent of that film with the new poster.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, “The Conjuring” tells the horrifying tale of how renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorised by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.’
Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor and Joey King star. A July 19th UK & US release date is set.

PHOENIX -- An Arizona House panel late Wednesday approved a measure targeting transgendered people who want to use bathrooms of the gender they identify with, voting along party lines to advance a bill that protects business owners who bar the practice.
The 7-4 vote concluded an hours-long parade of transgendered and straight people who tried to persuade the panel to oppose Appropriations Committee chairman Rep. John Kavanagh's bill. The crowd broke out in chants of "shame, shame, shame" as the vote on the bill sponsored by the conservative Republican passed.
Kavanagh had radically altered the bill after being faced with an outcry from advocacy groups, but that wasn't enough to keep about 200 opponents from attending a nearly 7-hour long hearing that concluded with several hours of testimony on the bill.
The original bill would have made it a crime for a transgendered person to use a bathroom other than his or her birth sex. The new bill instead seeks to shield businesses from civil or criminal liability if they ban people from restrooms that don't match their birth sex.
It was prompted by the recent passage of a Phoenix anti-discrimination ordinance that social conservatives said prevented businesses from keeping transgendered people out of locker rooms, showers and bathrooms. Kavanagh said it would subject businesses to criminal charges and expose little children to "naked men in women's locker rooms and showers,"
But the parade of witnesses Wednesday, many transgendered, said that was not only fear-based but just flat-out wrong.
"Search as you might there is not enough evidence that there is any risk in allowing a person with gender identity to use a restroom of their choice," said Claire Swinford, a Tucson resident who was born a man but identifies and dresses as a woman.
In fact, she said, being dressed as a woman actually puts her at physical risk from being attacked by a man while trying to use a men's restroom.
"What your bill attempts to do is sacrifice my personal safety for somebody else's sense of discomfort."
Patty Medway, a transgendered woman who was born a man, said she's been using female bathrooms for years without a problem. She called on Kavanagh to back away from his effort.
"I've been using washrooms for 15 years and I don't want to be discriminated against, and I'm scared to go to a male washroom," she said.
Maureen Robinson, a Tucson woman, called barring transgendered people from using bathrooms silly.
"It has been a non-issue, it will continue to be a non-issue, unless this bill becomes law," she said.
But Kavanagh, backed by the six other Republicans on the bill, quickly advanced the bill anyway. It now goes to the full House for consideration after a routine review.
Only one person testified in favor of the bill. He said the Phoenix ordinance trampled on the rights the business community.
"I don't believe that the opposing side should be able to impose their views on others," said Nohl Rosen, a Phoenix small business owner. "The way I feel, this is just the liberal left forcing their views on the rest of us"
Democrats on the panel all voted against advancing the bill, which one called "over the top."
"Frankly. I think this is an embarrassment to our state,' said Rep. Stefanie Mach of Tucson.
Kavanagh began the hearing by telling the crowd his original bill went too far, and that he had completely re-written it after hearing criticism, including some from his own caucus in the House.
"What I'm doing is pre-empting these cities from prosecuting businesses that say they want separate (facilities)," he said. "I'm basically resetting the clock to before Phoenix passed the law."-

Director Lynn Shelton (Your Sister’s Sister) must be pleased with the cast she’s pulling together for her dark comedy Laggies, as Deadlinereports that Anne Hathaway, Chloe Moretz, Mark Webber and Sam Rockwell are in final talks to star in the film.
The film is about Megan (Anne Hathaway), a woman who pretends to go on a work retreat after a surprise proposal from her boyfriend. However what she’s really doing is hiding out with her 16-year-old sister Annika (Chloe Moretz). Mark Webber is in talks to play Megan’s boyfriend, while Sam Rockwell will be Craig, although it’s not completely clear how he fits into the movie.
Andrea Seigel wrote the screenplay which Lynn Shelton will direct from.
