During the hearing, Clapper said that “unpredictable instability has become the new normal.” More specifically, Clapper told the SSCI that “homegrown” Islamist extremists pose an imminent threat to U.S. security; he also warned about threats posed by cyber attacks, which he suggested “could lead to widespread vulnerabilities in civilian infrastructures and U.S. government systems.” Outlining other threats
