U.S. President Barack Obama has condemned the shooting of two New York City police officers at point-blank range in broad daylight as they sat in their car Saturday. Ismaaiyl Brinsley: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Ismaaiyl Brinsley shot and killed two NYPD officers before committing suicide in Brooklyn’s Bed Stuy neighborhood just before 3 p.m. on December 20. He’s believed to have walked up to the cop’s patrol car and opened fire, “execution” style. The murdered cops have been named as officersWenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.
Here’s what you need to know:

    1. Brinsley Shot Himself Dead on a Crowded Subway Platform

After the shooting, he took his own life. Brinsley, 28, ran to the platform of a Subway station on Marcy Avenue and killed himself with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, reports NBC New York.
He was taken to a Brooklyn hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police recovered a silver handgun from his death scene. One witness told the New York Daily News that Brinsley just walked up “shot the cop in the head.”

    2. Reports Say it Was a Revenge Mission for Eric Garner & Michael Brown

darren wilson photo, cop who shot michael brown
Both cops were rushed to Woodhull Medical Center in critical condition after the shooting. Sadly, the two officers were pronounced dead just after 5 p.m. on December 20. The New York Post reportsthat detectives believe that the gunman thought of the shooting as a revenge mission for Eric Garner and Michael Brown. Both officers had been working overtime on an anti-terrorism drill when the shooting happened.
One of his last Instagram posts included lyrics to the 50 Cent song “Green Lantern,” never had a hot gun on your waist and blood on your shoe…n*gga you ain’t been through what I been through you not like me and I’m not like you.” The post included the hashtags, “#BrooklynGoHard #ConeyIsland,”reports the New York Post. The next showed a picture of a silver handgun with the words “I’m putting wings on pigs today. They take 1 of ours…Let’s take 2 of theirs.” It included the hashtags “#shootthepolice” as well as references to Michael Brown and Eric Garner. The Rev. Al Sharpton told the Wall Street Journal that he had spoken to the family of Eric Garner:
The Garner family and I have always stressed that we do not believe that all police are bad, in fact we have stressed that most police are not bad.
The shooting happened on a busy Saturday afternoon along Myrtle Avenue and Tompkins Avenue in Broklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. It happened close to the Tompkins Houses apartment buildings.

    3. He Is Suspected of Shooting a Family Member in the Stomach

New York One reports that he had shot someone in Baltimore and had come to New York City with the sole intention of killing NYPD officers. The New York Daily News reports that details about the Baltimore shooting were “scarce” but that a family member of Brinsley’s said the NYPD shooter had shot her in the stomach. The newspaper refers to Brinsley as a “gang member.” Josh Dawsey of the Wall Street Journal tweeted that Brinsley had ties in Brooklyn but his last known address was in Georgia.
Around eight hours before the shooting, Brinsley posted this message to Facebook:

    4. He Speaks Arabic

According to his Facebook page, Brinsley speaks Arabic. His favorite quotation on his page is:
The Foot You Step On Today Could Be Connected To The The Ass You May Have To Kiss Tomorrow.
On his Facebook page he went by the moniker “Bleau Barracuda.” According to an arrest sheet for Brinsley from 2007 in Georgia, his middle name is Abdullah. In that incident, Brinsley was accused of criminal trespass.

    5. This Is the Second Major Attack Against NYPD Officers in 2 Months

This shooting comes two months after axe-wielding maniac, Zale Thompson, attacked a group of NYPD officers. He wounded two but was shot dead by the other cops who were present. Thompson’s Facebook page showed multiple references to Black Power. Prior to the attack, he had been discharged from the Navy.

Cop killer in NYPD slays ran with Black Guerrilla Family

The cold-blooded cop-hater who gunned down two police officers in Brooklyn on Saturday is suspected of being a member of a notorious prison gang that has declared open season on the NYPD.
Detectives were headed to Baltimore on Saturday night to probe Ismaaiyl Brinsley’s ties to the Black Guerrilla Family, sources told the Daily News.
One source said Baltimore police were already investigating Brinsley’s connection to the gang, which started in California’s San Quentin Prison in the 1960s by Black Panther member George Jackson.
“BGF has been talking about getting back at cops for Eric Garner and Ferguson,” a source told The News, citing intelligence intercepted in Baltimore area prisons.
Brinsley boasted on social media about wanting to kill cops hours before ambushing two police officers on Saturday afternoon as they sat in their patrol car outside the Tompkins Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
“I’m putting wings on pigs today,” he posted on Instagram, referencing the deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., and Eric Garner in Staten Island.

    New York Daily News
At a press conference on Saturday night, Mayor de Blasio called Brinsley "this horrible assassin."
Brinsley, 28, also shot his former girlfriend in her home outside of Baltimore about 5:45 a.m. before traveling to New York, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said. He took his life by shooting himself in the head inside a subway station near the Tompkins Houses after ambushing the two cops.
The stunning events in New York came just days after Black Guerrilla Family members began spreading the word that they were “preparing to shoot on-duty police officers.”
As the Daily News reported on Dec. 6, an undercover NYPD cop learned of a Black Guerrilla Family plot to kill NYPD officers on Dec. 5 — three days after a Staten Island grand jury decided not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo in Garner’s chokehold death in July. At least ten BGF members were “preparing to shoot on duty police officers,” Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins said at the time.
The threat prompted police union leaders to advise NYPD officers to take extra precautions, including carrying additional ammunition and wearing bullet-proof vests at all times.
But the NYPD investigated the intelligence and later deemed, as The News reported on Dec. 7, that there was no "credible threat" posed by the BGF. “We are aware of the reports of this anonymous general threat against police. However, at this time there is no information to indicate that this is a credible threat against the NYPD,” an NYPD spokesman said at the time.
There also was another reported threat. On Nov. 25, the NYPD spokesman said then, a police department outside of New York received a threat through an anonymous 911 call. The call, which was made to the Baltimore police department, threatened violent retribution against “cops” but did not name a specific department, according to a police source.
Investigative work on that call led NYPD investigators to conclude that the November threat was not real, the NYPD spokesman said, but the department would continue to monitor developments.
Bratton said at the press conference Saturday night that after Brinsley shot his former flame, her family notified Baltimore authorities that he was posting threats on Instagram. The authorities there sent a warning to the NYPD by fax, but it was not received until right about the time that Brinsely struck in Bed-Stuy, Bratton said.
Last year Baltimore law enforcement officials cracked down on the BGF’s stranglehold on the Baltimore City Detention Center because the gang was extorting people, intimidating witnesses and dealing drugs with help from correction officers. An investigation led to the arrest of two inmates and five corrections officers on charges of extortion, witness intimidation and drug dealing in the city jail.

Who is New York Cop Shooter Ismaaiyl Brinsley?

    by Josh Feldman | 7:02 pm, December 20th, 2014
Information is coming in slowly about the man suspected of shooting two NYPD officers today.Several reports say the NYPD has identified him as 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Abdullah Brinsley, and will confirm that and additional information about him at a press conference this evening.
The New York Daily News reported that Brinsley is a member of a Baltimore gang looking to exact vengeance for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. He reportedly had shot his girlfriend in Baltimore just hours before. And CNN has confirmed, at the very least, that Brinsley had traveled to New York from Baltimore:
A 28-year-old Ismaaiyl Brinsley is in the database of Georgia arrests for carrying a concealed weapon and reckless behavior in 2011. Here’s the mugshot:
And you can see another mugshot below:
Below are pictures from his Facebook account (which has been taken down):

In addition, there have been several unconfirmed reports about a Facebook and Instagram page connected to Brinsley, neither of which include that name:

Two Police Officers Fatally Shot in Brooklyn; Suspect Is Found Dead

Two police officers in Brooklyn were fatally shot in their patrol car on Saturday in what the police commissioner called a “mindless assassination.”
The commissioner, William J. Bratton, said the suspect had shot his former girlfriend in the stomach in Baltimore earlier in the day and had apparently posted photos on an Instagram account threatening to kill New York City officers.
Mr. Bratton, speaking with Mayor Bill de Blasio at a news conference on Saturday evening, identified the officers as Wenjian Liu, a seven-year veteran of the New York Police Department, and Rafael Ramos, who had been an officer since 2012.
Mr. Bratton said the officers had been shot with “no warning” and “no provocation.”
After the shootings in Brooklyn, the man, whom Mr. Bratton identified as Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, then fled to a nearby subway station and fatally shot himself in the head.
The shootings come at a time when the city is roiled by demonstrations after a grand jury decided not to indict an officer in the chokehold death of Eric Garner on Staten Island.
The fatal ambush on Saturday took place near Myrtle and Tompkins Avenues in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.
“It looks like they were shot in the upper body,” Deputy Chief Kim Royster said.
Chief Royster said the gunman opened fire on the officers, ran up Myrtle and went into a subway station. The suspect later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, she said. The police recovered a gun from the scene, she added.
In Brooklyn, Fire Department officials said that a 911 call came in around 2:50 p.m. reporting that two people had been shot.
Charlie Hu, the manager of a liquor store at the corner near the shooting, said he saw two police officers slouched over in the front seat of their patrol car. At least one of the officers, Mr. Hu said, appeared to have been shot in the head.
At the scene of the shooting, Andy Jordan, 39, who lives nearby, said tensions were high in the neighborhood. “We need to look at how we got here,” he said.
The last New York City officer killed by gunfire in the line of duty was Peter Figoski, in 2011.

Mr. Bratton said the officers were shot with “no warning” and “no provocation.”
The last New York City officer killed by gunfire in the line of duty was Peter Figoski, in 2011.
