While Putin made a good KGB spy -- quietly collecting information in the background --
less comfortable making public decisions and explaining
intentions,

In an opinion piece published in The Journal in September 2004,
Connors
observed that Putin walks with a "highly restricted gate."

wrote, it appears as if Putin has trouble putting weight into

traced these problems back to the Russian leader's childhood, living in abject poverty in St. Petersburg in the 1950s.
Two of Putin's brothers died at an early age, one shortly after birth and the other from diphtheria,

physical limitations suggest a neurological problem that arose early in life, such as a trauma at birth, a stroke or an untreated childhood disease,"
