Des Moines: "The monks" - refers to the Russian Orthodox Church hierarchy which influences Putin.
This relationship, or the historical Byzantine Symphonia is very much like the Soviet relationship between the General Secretaries and the Ideology Department of the Communist Party. Putin sees the promised Orthodox Sainthood as his historical legacy, much more ambitious and worthy goal for him than a Nobel Peace Prize. It is also possible that he is legally insane, "mad", and experiences grandiose psychotic delusions, which he is able to hide skillfully, along with the other psychotic symptoms. These symptoms might be the manifestations of the underlying physical illness, such as Lupus Erythematosus or the sequelae of Dioxine Poisoning, together with the Narcissistic Personality Disorder, traits, or the predisposition.

This is the part and the cover for the larger plan: complete domination of the Middle East with the final displacement of the US from this region, and, most likely, with the assistance from D. Trump.
This plan might develop along the lines of the Crimean and Syrian scenarios. It was Putin who engineered the recent military coup in Turkey, and he blamed it on the US. The purpose was to weaken, decimate and eventually to destroy the Turkish military, a NATO member, in order to advance his plan. Putin is able to play the "unwitting" Erdogan "like a fiddle".
