M.N.: I liked Belkovsky's term: "forcing (West) into love (with Russia)": "принуждение Запада к любви". I had the same impression of recent events and developments in this area but described it as "forcing into cooperation". Essentially, in goals and purposes, description is the same, but "forcing into love" conveys the emotional context, in addition to goals and purposes; real or imagined (maybe as a product of Belkovsky's love spewing big heart). Putin himself is fond of repeating the word "love" quite often lately, he probably felt and wanted to express something very close to Belkovsky's term.
It reminded me an (apparently) old joke, a favorite of one of my "bosses" in my psychiatry residency days, who recited it with gusto and narcissistic-sadistic self-satisfaction. He expired of heart attack some time later, which tells us that it was more tension and pretentious play in his performance rather than the true and sincere enjoyment.
"What is the difference between rape and rapture?
Salesmanship."
It is the same in this situation: Putin's salesmanship in this affair is very much in line with traditional Russian "Red Bull" (thank you) or "Red Bear" styles.
