Victim in Deadly California Bus Crash Identified as College Recruiter

collapse story
A victim in Thursday’s deadly bus crash on Interstate 5 in California has been identified as Arthur Arzola, 26, of Rancho Cucamonga, the Sacramento County coroner’s office confirmed.
At least 10 people have died in the crash, including five students from Los Angeles-area high schools and three of their chaperones. The driver of the charter bus and the driver of the FedEx truck that struck it were also killed, authorities said. No other victims were immediately identified.
Arzola had been taken to the UC Davis Medical Center with severe burns.
Humboldt State University, where the bus was headed for a college tour, lists Arzola as a counselor and recruiter based in the Los Angeles region.
“Arzola is remembered by colleagues at Humboldt State for his passionate commitment to helping low-income and first-generation students get into college. He dedicated his career to that work,” read a statement by Humboldt State University.
On his staff profile, Arzola displayed that dedication to the college and the students he advised. “The moment that anyone walks on the HSU campus every staff/faculty member and student makes you feel like you’re part of the family,” Arzola wrote.
He listed his favorite pastimes as going to the beach and trying out “all of the local restaurants” in Arcata, Calif.
