Military cyborg biker presented to Putin

Published on Jan 20, 2015 Russia's military is busy building autonomous tanks, unmanned vehicles and other weapons one won't be ashamed of in the 21st century. Vladimir Putin visited a Research Institute outside Moscow and was shown a combat robot. Here's what he saw.

"I have just spoken with the national defense and security council secretary. Ukrainian military intelligence confirm the fact military personnel and equipment have been transferred from Russia to Ukraine," the prime minister is quoted as saying.
He continued: "Tanks, GRAD multiple rocket systems, BUK and SMERCH systems, radio electronic intelligence systems are not sold at local Donetsk street markets. Only the Russian army and Defense Ministry have them."
The prime minister's spokeswoman, Olga Lappo, confirmed to CNN the quotes attributed to Yatsenyuk are accurate.
Russian officials could not be immediately reached for a response.
The report came a day after protesters gathered at Kiev's Independence Square to march for peace,
Yatsenyuk and Ukraine's President were among those who attended the rally, which had as its slogan, "I am Volnovakha," in memory of the 13 passengers who died near the city of Volnovakha after their bus was hit by artillery fire on January 13.
"We will remember every Ukrainian hero who gave (life) for the sake of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," President Petro Poroshenko said. "We will not give up a single meter of our land."
Meanwhile, fighting in the east continued.
Government forces and pro-Russia rebels have been battling for control of the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions since April, after Russia annexed Ukraine's southeastern Crimea region the previous month.

The fighting and dying in Ukraine goes on but diplomacy is at a standstill. Sanctions must remain until Putin chooses peace
Donetsk airport, its runways cratered by shelling, its buildings battered and its control tower decapitated, is a modern ruin that has long ceased to function. To lose lives over it seems senseless. Yet such is its symbolism for both sides that the fighting between Ukrainian forces and separatists there goes on unabated, with the Ukrainians now claiming to have recaptured ground they had earlier lost. Meanwhile, diplomacy has all but stalled. As the shells and missiles flew on Monday in eastern Ukraine, Europe’s foreign ministers, meeting in Brussels, determined that there were no grounds for any relaxation of sanctions.
The strategic plan developed by the EU’s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, for a graduated reduction in sanctions in return for Russian concessions and cooperation in Ukraine and elsewhere has been set aside, as most people expected it would be, until the situation changes in a fundamental way.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama and his aides have been trickling out his State of the Union proposals on taxes, education, Internet access and more for weeks. What's left to watch for during Tuesday night's speech? Plenty. The event is as much about the theatrics and accoutrements of the evening as about the meat of the president's proposals....

EU Has No Plans for Easing Russia Sanctions

EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini said today that the EU has no plans to review the bloc’s sanctions against Russia at a regular meeting of foreign ministers. Speaking ahead of the meeting where Russia is expected to be a major topic, she was at pains to dispel any notion that the bloc is relaxing its position. Mogherini said: “The point under discussion isn’t our support for Ukraine. That stays strong and firm. It is not a discussion on sanctions.”
