Dubai Is Building Another Seemingly Impossible Project

Looking for a new skiing destination? You might want to add the desert kingdom of Dubai to your list.
The Gulf emirate has announced plans to build the world’s longest indoor ski slope, which will be part of a larger construction project that when completed will be home to the world’s tallest residential building and the largest dancing fountain, reported The National.
The first phase of the new complex, called Meydan One, will cover 40 million square feet and cost $6.8 billion to build. It’s set to be completed by 2020.
This isn’t Dubai’s first indoor ski slope, but the new slope will be three times longer than Ski Dubai in the Mall of the Emirates, which already holds the world record for being the world’s largest indoor ski resort. The new ski run will be 1.2 kilometers — or 0.75 miles — long.
Dubai is well-known for its elaborate construction projects. It is already home to the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower at 2,722 feet high.

The U.S. Is Offering $5 Million for Information on Mexican Drug Lord El Chapo’s Location

(WASHINGTON) — The U.S. government on Wednesday announced a $5 million reward for information leading to the recapture of one of the world’s most wanted drug kingpins, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman of Mexico.
The reward is being offered by the State Department while the Drug Enforcement Administration has set up a tip line for information about Guzman, who escaped from one of Mexico’s most secure prisons last month via a sophisticated mile-long tunnel that opened up in his cell’s shower. The tip line is being managed by the DEA’s San Diego field office.
The acting head of the DEA, Chuck Rosenberg, said he believes Guzman is in Mexico, probably hiding in his home state of Sinaloa, Mexico. But Rosenberg acknowledged that the elusive Guzman could be anywhere.
“I think he is still in Mexico,” Rosenberg said in a meeting with reporters. “Do I know that? No. It’s an educated guess.”
Guzman has twice been captured and twice escaped. He was first jailed after being extradited from Guatemala in 1993 and escaped from a maximum security prison in 2001. Thirteen years later he was arrested again in the seaside resort town of Mazatlan and escaped again about 16 months later.
Mexican authorities have announced a $3.8 million reward for Guzman, who is believed to have a net worth of about $1 billion.
Rosenberg said the DEA and U.S. authorities continue to work with their Mexican counterparts on the search for Guzman.

ISIS Seize Key Town in Central Syria

BEIRUT — Syrian activists say the Islamic State group has seized a key town in central Syria following clashes with President Bashar Assad’s forces.
The town of Qaryatain lies southwest of the historic town of Palmyra, which the extremist group seized in May. The capture of Qaryatain, a heavily populated town, allows the IS group to link up areas under its control in and around Palmyra with areas in the eastern countryside of Qalamoun north of Damascus.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the IS group seized the town Thursday after three suicide bombers targeted army checkpoints at the entrance the day before, setting off a fierce battle.
Websites affiliated with the Islamic State group confirmed the militants had taken over Qaryatain.
