This is another indication that the war on the U.S. police was possibly instigated by the hostile foreign intelligence services, of, first of all, Russia, Iran and China, as was mentioned by me in one of the previous posts.

One of the other main indications - active involvement of the New Black Panthers Party and Malik Shabazz (who "stands on solid ideological ground... with Mahmud Ahmadinejad, his excellency..." and apparently would not hesitate to do his bidding and perform all sort of tricks for him and others) in this war, who, I think, should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law (after been taken out from under the Obama's protective and loving wing).

The persistent cyber-attacks on the U.S. police departments is another sign of purposeful and direct hostilities as part of the broader cyber-war.
Now this intelligence and "hybrid" war against the police reflected in the recent statistical data, was turned into the information war against America: besides the direct aim of undermining and destroying the foundations of law, order and security in America - its law enforcement and police force, causing chaos and anarchy and destroying the country from within, it uses the current tensions (during which, as I saw it and as I think, police conduct was largely professional, proper and restrained), for the purposes of vicious, blatant, libelous and hypocritical propaganda by blackening America and trying to teach it lessons, a classic move to deflect attention from their own "dictators club" and their own real problems.

"Pakistan, Russia, China and Turkey were among the most vociferous of the member states, with Russia informing the U.S. that "the human rights situation in the country has seriously deteriorated recently" before presenting seven recommendations to the U.S. delegation."

"To watch the United States sit at the UN and be lectured about human rights by the world’s worst human rights abusers –Iran, North Korea, Cuba, China, Russia–and in the name of “human rights” is not only farcical, it’s twisted. One might even call it a masochistic foreign policy."

"Cadogan, who works in the Civil Rights Division, said the Department of Justice investigates and brings civil actions to change unlawful or discriminatory policing policies when systemic problems emerge.

“For instance, in March, we released a report finding that the police department of Ferguson, Missouri, engaged in a pattern or practice of racially discriminatory policing. Furthermore, we have opened more than 20 investigations in the last six years - including an investigation into the Baltimore Police Department announced on Friday. And, we are currently enforcing 16 landmark agreements with state or local law enforcement agencies,” said Cadogan."

Obama administration is directly and treacherously complicit in this effort: it wants to shame America in the eyes of the World in order to achieve its racist and leftist goals under the guise of "human rights" issues.

This complicity is poignantly counterpointed with the civil rights abuse record, including the failure to prosecute the voter intimidation case, during Mr. Holder's tenure, the "Obama's Enforcer" and his role in this war on police, his "last present", along with rubber wristbands (doesn't he need something firmer and less removable?) to the American people for his forced resignation, as the alternative to his would be imminent impeachment.

Shame on you, Mr. Obama!

President Obama is one of the lead champions of the UN Human Rights Council and the Council’s so-called Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process is touted as its leading innovation for protecting human rights.

To watch the United States sit at the UN and be lectured about human rights by the world’s worst human rights abusers –Iran, North Korea, Cuba, China, Russia–and in the name of “human rights” is not only farcical, it’s twisted. One might even call it a masochistic foreign policy.

Iran

Mr. President, The Islamic republic of Iran welcomes the delegation of the USA to the 22nd UPR working group andrecommends that the United States ratify the convention on the rights of the child and the convention on the rights of person with disabilities;, uphold its obligation to end all forms of racial discrimination in the country and protect the rights of African Americans against police brutality; take all legal measures to adopt and implement a national racial justice plan consistent with the Durban Declaration and programmable action; end discrimination in law and practice against all minorities and migrants particularly against women and children from poor families and take effective steps to prevent and combat violence against them; investigate torture allegations, extrajudicial executions and other violations of human rights committed in Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib [and other] camps and subsequently close them. Mr. President, we are deeply concerned that the definition of racial discrimination used in federal and in state legislation and in court practice is not in line with the convention of the ICRD [International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination]. We call upon the United States to inter alia prohibit racial discrimination.

North Korea

Mr. President, we are gravely concerned at the US violations of human rights, and recommend one, to investigate the CIA total crimes which is […] indignation among people to disclose all information and to allow investigation by international community in this regard; two, to take legal and administrative measures to address the civilian killings by the US military troops during and operating based in Afghanistan and Iraq by bringing perpetrators to justice and relieving the victims; three, to put to an end to all US military presence in foreign territories which is the root cause of human rights breaches, including homicide and rape; four, to take all measures to put to an end to police breaches, including the merciless killings of colored people and all racial discrimination; and finally to unconditionally abolish its [….] desolation on human rights and related matters, including the North Korea Human Rights Act. Thank you Mr. President.

Cuba

We welcome the delegation of the United States and we recommend that it prosecute and punish perpetrators of torture; suspend the intercepting, holding and use of communication, including monitoring and extra-territorial interception of information and the use of surveillance operations against citizens, institutions, representatives of other countries which violate the right to privacy, international law, and the principle of sovereignty for all states recognized in the UN charter; third, that it punish perpetrators of abuse and police brutality, which are matters of increasing alarm and are facts testifying to an upswing of racism, racial discrimination, particularly against afro-americans and latinos and women; fourth that it adopt and apply a national plan in accordance with the Durban Declaration; fifth, that it guarantee the right by all residents in the country to adequate housing, food, health and education with a view to reducing poverty which affects 48 million people in the country. Thank you very much.

China

The Chinese delegation welcomes the U.S. delegation to the UPR process. China would like to express its concern about some deep rooted human rights problems in the US and recommend the following: first, it should correctly address the root cause of racial discrimination and eliminate the frequently occurred excessive law enforcement of african ethnics and other minority ethnics; second, fully disclose the abuse of torture by its intelligence agency, ensure the accountability of the persons responsible, and agree to unrestricted visit by special rapporteur on torture to Guantanamo facilities; three, stop massive surveillance activities both inside and outside its territory to avoid violating the rights to privacy of its citizens and those of other countries; fourth, respect indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities’ rights and interest, fully consult with them on their land, autonomy, environment, language and other issues, correct historical injustices and offer compensation; five, ratify as soon as possible ICSER [International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights], the CRC [Convention on the Rights of the Child], the CRPD [Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities] and CEDAW [Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women].

Lebanon

….We wish to recommend the following: First, to strengthen the existing laws and legislations in order to combat the different forms of discrimination, racism and hatred. Two, ratify the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women; three, ratify the optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture; four, to continue to fight crimes of human trafficking…

Libya

…My delegation recommends the following. Expedite the ratification of the condition [sic] on the rights of the child. Number two, work and do all that is best in order to close down the Guantanamo facilities; number three, establish an independent commission insured by a special prosecutor to help identify and incarcerate the crimes perpetrated by individuals or groups based on racism. And finally, we wish the government of the United States all kinds of success in bringing up the level of performance of its national, legislative, and executive institutions.

Russian Federation

We have carefully sorted the national report of the US as well as alternative reports. Unfortunately, we have to point out that the authorities of the country manifestly have not paid sufficient attention to the recommendations provided during the first cycle of the UPR. We would also note that the human rights situation in the country has seriously deteriorated recently. The government of the US must take urgent measures to improve the situation. We recommend: first, that it ensure independent and objective investigations into all cases of police arbitrary behavior, including murders, torture, arbitrary detention, the use of military equipment and the seizure of property. Second, that it provide effective legal and procedural guarantees against the collection and use by security services of personal information this includes abroad. Third, that it immediately close the Guantanamo prison and cease illegal detention of terrorism suspects at its military bases abroad. Four, that it stop extrajudicial killings of US citizens and foreigners including those being committed with the use of unmanned aircraft. Fifth, that it conduct impartial and objective investigations into all cases of the cruel treatment of adopted children and to eliminate the impunity for such crimes. Sixth that it stop the practice of racial profiling in judicial and law enforcement systems. Seventh that it withdraw all reservations to human rights treaties internationally and…provisions conscientiously.

U.N. Criticizes U.S. on Torture and Array of Human Rights Issues

The United Nations Committee Against Torture released a report Friday that deeply criticized the U.S. for its responses and investigations — or lack thereof — into counter-terrorism methods, police brutality, immigration policies, sexual assault in the military and other "subjects of concern."

The report's findings are the "concluding observations" of hearings during the "Convention against Torture and Other Cruel Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment," which took place in Geneva, starting in early November. U.S. Department of State Acting Legal Adviser Mary E. McLeod and U.S. Representative to the Human Rights Council Keith Harper participated in the hearings on Nov. 13-14. The parents of Michael Brown, who was shot and killed by a police officer in August,testified during the hearings.

The report chastised the Obama administration for failing to disclose information on CIA practices following Sept. 11, which "involved numerous human rights violations, including torture, ill-treatment and enforced disappearance of persons suspected of involvement in terrorism-related crimes." The report also urged the Obama administration to stop "indefinite detention without charge or trial" for inmates at Guantanamo Bay detention facilities. The report also express concern over immigration detention and "removal procedures" of immigrants that fail to consider whether they are in need of asylum.

Regarding a topic that has been on the country's mind in the wake of the police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson Missouri and 12-year-old Tamir Rice in Celveland, Ohio, the United Nations report said the U.S. should do more on the federal level to make sure police found to have used excessive force be prosecuted. The report also said the committee was concerned about numerous reports of police profiling of ethnic minorities, immigrants and LGBT individuals.

The report specifically reprimanded the Department of Defense for failing to wholly address and prevent sexual assault of men and women in the armed forces.

Responding to the report, Ned Price, a spokesman for Obama's National Security Council, said: "We are reviewing the Committee's concluding observations. In our presentation before the Committee earlier this month, U.S. officials reaffirmed our deep and abiding commitment to the obligations enshrined in the Convention Against Torture, to which we are a party, and engaged in a robust dialogue with the Committee. We will continue to work with our partners toward the achievement of the Convention's ultimate objective: a world without torture."

During the hearings, Department of State Acting Legal Adviser McLeod said, "in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, we regrettably did not always live up to our own values."

Representative to the Human Rights Council Harper said the council sees "our dialogue with the U.N. human rights treaty bodies as a part of a valuable process to push all nations, including ours, to do better."

American Civil Liberties Union Human Rights Program Director Jamil Dakwar said in a statementFriday that U.S. officials' words were worthless unless changes were made.

"The Obama administration needs to match its rhetoric with actions by supporting full accountability for torture," Dakwar said.

UN Grills US on Police Brutality, Racial Bias

The United States has mounted a vigorous defense of Washington’s pursuit of justice for all its citizens at a United Nations public hearing to examine the U.S.'s human rights record. Representatives from 117 countries questioned the U.S. on issues including police brutality, racism and torture during the half-day hearing held by the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The U.S. was represented at the hearing by a large legal team fielding questions and sharp criticism from U.N. member states about the U.S. human rights record. The most persistent observations and expressions of disapproval had to do with alleged discriminatory practices against racial minorities and the excessive use of force by law enforcement.

The U.S. delegation said it was proud of the country's human rights record, but admitted the record was not spotless. It fell to James Cadogan, Senior Counselor to the Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice, to explain several controversial cases involving police and minorities, including the fatal shooting last year of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. The police officer who shot and killed the African-American teenager was not indicted.

Cadogan, who works in the Civil Rights Division, said the Department of Justice investigates and brings civil actions to change unlawful or discriminatory policing policies when systemic problems emerge.

The investigation in Baltimore, Maryland, follows the death of 25-year-old African-American Freddie Gray from injuries sustained while in police custody. Six officers in this case have been charged in his death.

Aggrieved expect no change

People who say they were victims of racial discrimination and attended the hearing were not satisfied with U.S. assurances it was doing its best to eliminate excessive use of force and discriminatory practices in the country’s police forces.

One person presented testimony on the sidelines of the meeting about the suffering he said he and his family endured following the fatal police shooting of his sister. An off-duty Chicago police officer fatally shot Martinez Sutton’s sister, Rekia Boyd, on March 21, 2012, while she was in a park with friends.

The police officer who shot Boyd was acquitted three weeks ago in what civil rights lawyers call a flawed trial. Sutton told VOA he does not expect that anything will change following the uproar over Michael Brown or Freddie Gray.

“I came here to raise awareness about this issue as I have been doing for three years. I have been going around asking for help… I do not expect them to do anything because - I mean: Let us be real, it has been going on for years and what has been done? As I stated before, they say the guilty should be punished. I want them to show us instead of tell us,” said Sutton.

Countries participating in the debate proposed a number of recommendations to the U.S. These included calls for the U.S. to abolish capital punishment, close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, prevent acts of torture, eliminate racial discrimination in all its forms and combat violence against women.

The U.N. public hearing is part of the so-called Universal Periodic Review, which all 193 U.N. member countries must undergo every four years. This is the second time the United States' record has been examined under this procedure. A U.N. report on the review and recommendations are scheduled to be adopted Friday.

(ANTIMEDIA) In what could hardly be called a surprise, the UN Human Rights Council chastised the US over its epidemic of police violence, discrimination, needless killings, and general neglect, following through with recommendations made in its first review in 2010.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) takes place every four years to scrutinize the human and civil rights practices of each of the UN’s 193 member nations. Delegates from 117 countries took the opportunity to lambaste the US’ record of civil rights violations exacted by its brutal and racist police forces.

In an attempt to fend off the inevitable, James Cadogan, a senior counselor in the Department of Justice’s Human Rights Division, said the US must “rededicate ourselves to ensuring that our civil rights laws live up to their promise,” listing several “tragic deaths” that sparked numerous demonstrations and wide-scale unrest across the country. However, he seemed to be blind to the fundamental basis for such outrage saying the US wishes to “identify and address potential policing issues before they become systemic problems,”, even asserting a fictitious good record for holding violators accountable. As Mary McLeod, acting legal adviser to the US Dept of State, put it, “We’re proud of the work we’ve done since our last UPR.” Most would disagree.

What the US representatives touted as improvements, actually do more to highlight the systemic issue they claim to be on the lookout for. Cadogan cited 400 instances in the past six years in which charges were brought against law enforcement officials, but this doesn’t figure in the disproportionately light punishment that often results from prosecution of police officers. Even his own preemptive statement, naming Michael Brown and Eric Garner as examples, speaks far more to police impunity than accountability — and is hardly reflective of the totality of incidents. Over 400 people have been killed by police in 2015 alone.

“Chad considers the United States of America to be a country of freedom, but recent events targeting black sectors of society have tarnished its image,” said Awada Angui, the delegate from that country.

The representative from Namibia, Gladice Pickering, echoed the general consensus saying the US needs “to fix the broken justice system that continues to discriminate against [marginalized communities], despite recent waves of protest over racial profiling and police killings of unarmed black men.”

A federal investigation was launched on Friday to determine if police in Baltimore have instituted a pattern of discrimination following reports from residents of brutal abuse before and after Freddie Gray was killed in police custody. Such investigations are often too little, too late for victims and their families, who see them more akin to the cynical joke; “we investigated ourselves and found we did nothing wrong.”

Martinez Sutton, whose 22-year-old sister, Rekia Boyd, was shot by an off-duty Chicago police officer in 2012, observed from the sidelines. He feels that her killer’s acquittal three weeks ago is frustratingly typical: “I do not expect them to do anything because – I mean: Let us be real, it has been going on for years and what has been done? As I stated before, they say the guilty should be punished. I want them to show us instead of tell us. My sister was innocent, so why isn’t anybody paying for her death?”

The UN will issue its report on the review along with recommendations on Friday, though its contents probably won’t be of much consequence considering the US “largely failed” to implement any of the 171 changes suggested in the previous report.

There isn’t much comfort to be found in an atmosphere where calling the cops for assistance could potentially be your own death sentence. But if our own government doesn’t see a problem with its policing policies, at least 117 other countries around the world are starting to ask questions.

The so-called “human rights” problems cited in the report include:

Discrimination against Muslims who want to build or expand mosques
Voter identification laws in Texas and elsewhere
Predatory lending in home mortgages
Suspension of black children in schools
Women earning “78 cents on the dollar” (a false statistic)

In addition, the report boasts of progress in the following areas:

Promoting same-sex marriage
Fighting discrimination against transgender children in school
Executive action on illegal immigration
Helping illegal alien children who cross the border
Protecting privacy rights against government surveillance
Trying to close the Guantánamo Bay prison for terror detainees
Revoking “torture” memos for interrogating terrorists

Expanding food stamps
Regulating “carbon pollution” to fight climate change

The apologetic, left-liberal report echoes one filed by the Obama administration five years ago, during which the State Department proudly told the Human Rights Council that the administration opposed Arizona’s new immigration law, among other alleged American misdeeds.

Critics of the UN note that “the UPR has become a place where abusers are applauded and democracies are heavily criticized,” and “Iran, Libya, China, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia” are treated lightly.

Al-Jazeera America reported that the U.S. was subjected to scathing criticism from a variety of dictatorships after filing its report, including Chad, Pakistan, Russia, and China.

Iran, for example, complained about racial discrimination in the United States, among other criticisms, calling on the U.S. to “protect the rights of African-Americans against police brutality.” (The Iranian regime brutally represses its own population, and used police and paramilitaries to crush a pro-democracy protest in 2009.)

The Qatar-owned network piled on with a misleading headline: “US cited for police violence, racism in scathing UN review on human rights.”

The story implied that it was the UN that had targeted the United States, rather than the Obama administration targeting America–a rather telling conflation of America’s enemies with the Obama administration itself.

A representative of the Obama administration offered meekly: “The tragic deaths of Freddie Gray in Baltimore, Michael Brown in Missouri, Eric Garner in New York, Tamir Rice in Ohio and Walter Scott in South Carolina have renewed a long-standing and critical national debate about the even-handed administration of justice.

“These events challenge us to do better and to work harder for progress–through both dialogue and action.”

The Obama administration also boasted to the UN about challenging “racially discriminatory voting laws in North Carolina and Texas,” though many UN member states have laws requiring voter photo identification, and similar laws have been upheld in the recent past by the U.S. Supreme Court as constitutional and non-discriminatory.

The United States was slammed over its rights record Monday at the United Nations’ Human Rights Council, with member nations criticizing the country for police violence and racial discrimination, the Guantánamo Bay Detention Facility and the continued use of the death penalty.

The issue of racism and police brutality dominated the discussion on Monday during the country’s second universal periodic review (UPR). Country after country recommended that the U.S. strengthen legislation and expand training to eliminate racism and excessive use of force by law enforcement.

"I'm not surprised that the world's eyes are focused on police issues in the U.S.," said Alba Morales, who investigates the U.S. criminal justice system at Human Rights Watch.

"There is an international spotlight that's been shone [on the issues], in large part due to the events in Ferguson and the disproportionate police response to even peaceful protesters," she said.

Anticipating the comments to come, James Cadogan, a senior counselor to the U.S. assistant attorney general, told delegates gathered in Geneva, "The tragic deaths of Freddie Gray in Baltimore, Michael Brown in Missouri, Eric Garner in New York, Tamir Rice in Ohio and Walter Scott in South Carolina have renewed a long-standing and critical national debate about the even-handed administration of justice. These events challenge us to do better and to work harder for progress — through both dialogue and action."

All of the names he mentioned are black men or boys who were killed by police officers or died shortly after being arrested. The events have sparked widespread anger and unrest over the past year.

Cadogan added that the Department of Justice has opened more than 20 investigations in the last six years — including an investigation into the Baltimore Police Department — as well as the release of a report of the Presidential Task Force on 21st Century Policing in March, which included more than 60 recommendations.

But advocates like Morales say the U.S. could do much more.

"Use of excessive force by police was a major part of this year's UPR, and the fact that we still don't have a reliable national figure to know how many people are killed by police or what the racial breakdown is of those people is a travesty," she said. "A nation as advanced as the U.S. should be able to gather that number."

The Justice Department did not respond to requests for comment.

Although the problems are not new, the death of young men like Gray and Brown and the unrest that followed their killings in U.S. cities over the past year has attracted the attention — and criticism — of the international community.

"Chad considers the United States of America to be a country of freedom, but recent events targeting black sectors of society have tarnished its image," said Awada Angui of the U.N. delegation to Chad.

The U.S. responded to questions and recommendations from 117 countries during a three-and-a-half-hour session in Geneva on Monday morning, with the high level of participation leaving each country just 65 seconds to speak.

Among the various concerns raised by U.N. member states was the failure to close the Guantánamo Bay detention facility, the continued use of the death penalty, the need for adequate protections for migrant workers and protection of the rights of indigenous peoples.

Member states also called on the U.S. to end child labor, human trafficking and sexual violence against Native American and Alaska Native women and to lift restrictions on the use of foreign aid to provide safe abortion services for rape victims in conflict areas.

Pakistan, Russia, China and Turkey were among the most vociferous of the member states, with Russia informing the U.S. that "the human rights situation in the country has seriously deteriorated recently" before presenting seven recommendations to the U.S. delegation.

Pakistan Ambassador to the U.N. Zamir Akram told the delegation that Pakistan has "serious concerns about the human rights situation in the U.S."

Akram’s eight recommendations included calls for the U.S. to use armed drones in line with international norms and to compensate innocent victims of drone strikes with cash. He also said the U.S. should end police brutality against African-Americans, cease illegal detentions at Guantánamo Bay and prosecute CIA operatives responsible for torture.

The March findings of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence on torture were not overlooked by international delegates. Many echoed the concerns of the Danish delegate, Carsten Staur, who recommended that the U.S. "further ensures that all victims of torture and ill treatment, whether still in U.S. custody or not, obtain redress and have an enforceable right to fair and adequate compensation and as full rehabilitation as possible, including medical and psychological assistance."

Under the UPR, every U.N. member state is subject to the same peer-review of its human rights record on a four-year cycle.

The UPR was created as part of the mandate of the Human Rights Council, established by the U.N. General Assembly in 2006 to replace the widely discredited Human Rights Commission, which included among its members some of the world's most egregious human rights abusers.

The council consists of elected members which, when electing new members, according to theresolution that created it, should "take into account the candidates' contribution to the promotion and protection of human rights and their voluntary pledges and commitments made thereto."

Still, according to Freedom House — an organization advocating for democracy and human rights — repressive regimes nonetheless gain council membership and can weaken the effectiveness of the council and the UPR. And the process is not without hypocrisy, as countries that frequently abuse the rights of their citizens line up to offer their critiques of and recommendations for other member states.

"Obviously, everybody has improvements they can make to their human rights record. We do believe that everybody from the most powerful country on down should be called to task on their rights records, and we value the opportunity to do so," said Morales.

"We like to focus on the substance of the comments rather than the source of them," she added.

The U.S. faced its first review in 2010, when member states presented the delegation with 240recommendations; it accepted 171. According to Human Rights Watch, the U.S. has failed to act on many of those recommendations.

About a fifth of the 2010 recommendations urged the U.S. to ratify or withdraw reservations on a slew of international human rights treaties and conventions.

After that review, the U.S. accepted recommendations to consider ratifying key human rights conventions, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. But according to Human Rights Watch, no new human rights treaties have been signed or ratified.

A representative for the State Department was unavailable to comment on U.S. progress on ratification of these treaties.

Recommendations accepted by the U.S. in 2010 include a commitment to “find a solution for all persons detained at Guantánamo Bay” — yet 122 men are still detained at the facility.

The execution of three Mexican nationals in Texas since 2011 also appeared to undermine a U.S. agreement to "resolve the obstacles that prevent the full implementation of the Avena Judgment," which requires a review of death sentences handed to foreign nationals who were denied their right to consular notification of their detention.

A majority of countries pushed the U.S. to establish a moratorium on the death penalty at the federal level, with a view to full abolition. While the number of executions taking place in the U.S. has been declining, member states raised concerns about the use of lethal injection in light of botched executions over the past year.

While rejecting recommendations to establish a moratorium, the U.S. agreed to "take all necessary steps to comply with minimum standards under international law relating to the death penalty." However, people with serious mental shortcomings continue to be executed — most recently in March 2015, when 74-year-old Cecil Clayton, who had lost part of his brain in a sawmill accident, was executed via lethal injection.

The tyrant-dominated UN “Human Rights Council,” which has previously lambasted the U.S. government for not further defying the U.S. Constitution and infringing even more on the gun rights of Americans, focused largely on verbally attacking U.S. police during a session in Geneva. However, the outfit’s members also demanded everything from closing Guantanamo Bay and banning capital punishment to providing more taxpayer funding for abortion worldwide and more welfare at home.

The UN’s “Universal Periodic Review” (UPR) of the United States, which took place in Geneva on May 11, was the second review of America’s “human rights” record. Representatives of some 117 governments and brutal dictatorships seized the opportunity to blast the U.S. government for not submitting quickly enough to their previous list of demands outlined in 2010. Those “recommendations,” often made by some of the UN’s most ruthless mass-murdering member regimes, focused mostly on surrendering more U.S. sovereignty to the UN by ratifying more global treaties, submitting to UN kangaroo courts, and allowing the UN to dictate U.S. policy. The communist and socialist regimes ruling North Korea, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba, and more all added their demands to the list. Iran’s Islamist autocrats called for the U.S. government to combat “gun violence.”

The most recent UN “review” of the United States, which every member government of the global body is purportedly “required” to submit to, mostly aimed at demonizing U.S. police as violent racists supposedly in need of national and global controls. The recent death of Freddie Gray under suspicious circumstances in police custody, already being exploited by Obama and the establishment to push for nationalizing local police forces, received a great deal of attention. Other recent high-profile killings by American police officers were brought up repeatedly as well. Also high on the agenda were attacks on NSA spying, which multiple hostile foreign regimes presumably being monitored by U.S. intelligence services criticized as a “human rights” concern. Spying on U.S. citizens without a warrant is already unconstitutional.

Each UN member regime participating in the spectacle was given just over a minute to lash out at America. Putin’s representative said “the human rights situation in the country has seriously deteriorated recently.” The U.S.-funded Pakistani regime’s delegate, meanwhile, said he had “serious concerns about the human rights situation in the U.S.,” pointing to Obama’s extrajudicial drone assassinations, CIA torture, illegal detentions, and alleged systemic police brutality against blacks. Indian government representative Ajit Kumar even called for the U.S. government to create a “national human rights institution.” Several European governments blasted the ongoing use of the death penalty by some U.S. states. Various “human rights” groups also attacked the United States for real and imagined violations of rights.

The Obama administration, meanwhile, sent high-level bureaucrats to grovel before the UN panel. “We must rededicate ourselves to ensuring that our civil-rights laws live up to their promise,” U.S. Justice Department official James Cadogan declared in Geneva. “The tragic deaths of Freddie Gray in Baltimore, Michael Brown in Missouri, Eric Garner in New York, Tamir Rice in Ohio, and Walter Scott in South Carolina have renewed a long-standing and critical national debate about the even-handed administration of justice. These events challenge us to do better and to work harder for progress — through both dialogue and action.”

Cadogan said criminal charges were brought against more than 400 American law-enforcement officers over the last six years, but that more work was needed — and that more prosecutions were likely coming. “When federal, state, local or tribal officials willfully use excessive force that violates the U.S. Constitution or federal law, we have authority to prosecute them,” he said after being peppered with questions by foreign regimes about alleged racism and systematic use of excessive force by American police officers. Last year, exploiting events in Ferguson, UN boss Ban even demanded that local U.S. police departments adhere to what he called “international standards.”

On torture, already a blatant violation of the U.S. Constitution and federal law, the Obama administration continued its pattern of shielding torturers from prosecution, offering lip-service instead. “As President Obama has acknowledged, we crossed the line, we did not live up to our values, and we take responsibility for that,” said U.S. “legal advisor” Mary McLeod about the CIA torture report released last year, though she stopped short of saying that those involved in the crimes would face justice. “We have since taken steps to clarify that the legal prohibition on torture applies everywhere and in all circumstances, and to ensure that the United States never resorts to the use of those harsh interrogation techniques again.”

Unsurprisingly, brutal dictatorships of all varieties rushed to celebrate the condemnation of the United States by the UN dictators club. “The Universal Periodic Review that the UN Human Rights Council conducted over the United States' human rights record on May 11 proved, once again, that no country is perfect in its human rights record,” claimed a spokesperson for the brutal Communist Chinese dictatorship’s “Foreign Ministry,” as if Obama’s lawlessness justified Beijing’s savagery. “The Chinese side hopes that any country undergoing review will be modest enough to listen to the advice of various countries, work hard to resolve its own human rights problems and improve its human rights status.” Propaganda organs for various dictatorships also released articles praising the UN “review.”

The UN launched its UPR scheme after being forced to rebrand its “Human Rights Commission.” The commission was replaced with the “Council” after it became an international laughingstock for, among other absurdities, electing Libyan tyrant Moammar Gadhafi’s regime to lead it. Of course, while some of the points raised by UN member regimes at the latest review in Geneva are indeed egregious violations of the unalienable rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, the UN “human rights” apparatus remains as discredited as ever. Among the paragons of “human rights” currently sitting on the UN council, for example, are the brutal regimes ruling Communist China, Cuba, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Communist Vietnam, Venezuela, and more.

In fact, the entire foundation of the UN’s “human rights” apparatus is inherently and fundamentally opposed to the U.S. Constitution and its protections for the God-given rights of all Americans. UN “human rights” are purportedly defined and granted to people by governments, dictators, treaties, and international organizations. The Declaration of Independence, by contrast, makes clear that everyone is endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights, and that government exists to protect those rights. Article 29 of the UN “Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” though, makes clear that UN “human rights” can be restricted or abolished by government at will under virtually any pretext. It also says UN-defined “rights and freedoms” may “in no case be exercised contrary to the purposes and principles of the United Nations.”

The UN review will conclude with a series of “recommendations” to be issued later this week. Rather than bow before mass-murderers and brutal dictatorships, though, the U.S. government should defund and withdraw from the UN dictators club. If Americans’ elected representatives would simply obey the U.S. Constitution they all swore an oath to uphold, the real, God-given human rights of everyone in the United States would already be protected from government infringement. On top of that, the UN's bogus "human rights" schemes are being used as a weapon to attack real rights andthe U.S. Constitution. It is time for Congress to put an end to the UN's charade.
