What's happening with Putin and Russia: True, the NTV channel aired images Friday of Putin meeting with supreme court president Vyacheslav Lebedev at his Novo-Ogaryovo presidential residence outside Moscow. But as there was no proof the footage was actually filmed Friday, that did little to stop the rumors. After all, the Kremlin has already been caught out once before this week, when it tried to pass off old photographs as new ones as evidence of Putin’s activities. What's happening with Putin and Russia Saturday March 14 th , 2015 at 5:27 PM Military & Defense Contributors 1 Share Screen grab CCTV Kremlin Kremlin-controlled TV informed millions of Russians about a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and his Kyr...

» Seven air strikes target Islamic State in Iraq, four in Syria: U.S. military 15/03/15 17:29 from Mike Nova's Shared Newslinks | Vladimir Putin missing: Rumours suggest president has flu and is lying low at Valdai outside Moscow: Dmitry Trenin, director of the Carnegie Moscow Center, called the growing speculation that the president had fallen ill “wishful thinking” more indicative of Western fears than a state of doom in Russia. Other commentators offered a darker explanation, drawing parallels with a stunt in 1564. “Recall how Ivan the Terrible unexpectedly vanished from Moscow to make his subjects realise how ‘bad’ it was to live without him… in what looked like a ploy to strengthen support for his rule as he contemplated new drastic measures,” noted Simon Saradzhyan, assistant director of the US-Russia Initiative to Prevent Nuclear Terrorism at Harvard’s Belfer Centre. The Chechen Link to Russian Activist's Death - Stratfor: There are countless explanations for what is taking place. Putin's honoring Kadyrov just as the Chechen leader re-entered the FSB's sites is a key development. It is possible that Putin wanted to make sure the FSB knows that Kadyrov is a loyalist and cannot be removed from his position in Chechnya for fear is destabilization. And it is possible that during their meeting, Patrushev wanted to ensure that Kadyrov knows his place. Adding to the confusion is Putin's disappearance from the public eye for days and his cancellation of many meetings. In addition, Kadyrov's only other ally in the Kremlin, Putin's advisor Vladislav Surkov, left Russia for a sudden vacation with his family in Hong Kong on the very day the media noticed Putin's disappearance. There are countless explanations for what is taking place. M.N.: This is, it seems to me, the new type of war, undeclared ("Without Sky" is a sort of belletristic declaration), "soft", low-cost, that is waged on America these days: strange, unexplained, mysterious accidents, plain and train crashes (with general message: "you are on the collision course with us and will face disaster" and specific messages in "hidden, twilight" language, referring to names, places and numbers), murders-suicides, incited violence and "the war on the police", penetration and manipulation of mass media - information war, cyber-attacks, psychological zombification and enslavement, etc., etc., etc.. Apparently this strategy was well conceptualized and thought-out. Its goal is the same as in regular wars: mass control (it was and is practiced quite successfully by the KGB domestically for decades), demoralization and domination, it just is achieved differently, with "more efficient modern methods". Are we prepared for this new type of war? What do we have to do to be more prepared? What do we have to do to win it (and I have no doubts that we will)? | Vladislav Surkov: "It was the first non-linear war. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that “no amount of pressure will cause me to abandon the security needs of Israel” in reaction to reports that the US could cease its support for Israel at the UN on Thursday’s “Sean Hannity Show.”
Netanyahu said “I hope that’s not true, because, A. We are allies and American has no better ally than Israel, and Israel has no better ally than America. Secondly, the United States has always said, and the president has always said that the only way to get any kind of general peace is through negotiations and not by diplomatic dictate, at the UN or anywhere else. And, third, if there is pressure to be put, it’s on the Palestinians who’ve embraced Hamas and walked out from the talks.”
Netanyahu added, “in any case, no amount of pressure will cause me to abandon the security needs of Israel, and we will not endanger our country[‘s] survival for terms that would endanger that survival. It’s just not going to happen, it’s important. And I would like to believe that that’s not accurate reporting.”

According to Foreign Policy, the Obama administration may stop blocking United Nations efforts to “call for the resumption of political talks to conclude a final peace settlement” between Israelis and Palestinians. The fact that the United Nations wants to force Israel, a fully functioning diverse democracy, into negotiating with a terrorist regime led by the Palestinian Authority and Hamas demonstrates the moral bankruptcy of the institution. But more importantly, it demonstrates that President Obama’s big power grab is just beginning.
When Obama took office, some on the conservative right worried deeply about the possibility of Obama utilizing the United Nations in order to cram down internationalist leftism on Americans. Books and articles emerged talking up the threat of Agenda 21, a non-binding plan from the United Nations designed to create “sustainable development” – code for dramatic regulation of anything that could impact the environment.
Many conservatives became concerned with UN Resolution 16/18, shepherded through the institution by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and designed to combat “the stereotyping, negative profiling and stigmatization of people based on their religion.” The resolution represented a predicate for an “international blasphemy law,” as liberal law professor Jonathan Turley wrote.
Finally, conservatives fretted over the UN Arms Trade Treaty signed by the Obama administration. As National Rifle Association spokeswoman Catherine Mortensen said, “We are worried about an end-run around Congress. Barack Obama or a future anti-gun president could use ATT and international norms compliance to rationalize enacting gun control policies through executive actions, especially in the import and export realms.” Secretary of State Kerry blathered at the time, “Make no mistake, we would never think about supporting a treaty that is inconsistent with the rights of American citizens to be able to exercise their guaranteed rights under our constitution.”
Obviously, no domestic legislation has yet enacted this international regime of dangerous gibberish. But the danger of Obama utilizing international agreements to defeat domestic opposition seems to be growing.
Today, Obama floated the notion of going to the UN to build an international sanctions regime against our ally Israel. As Politico reported:
More provocative to Israel would be any softening of Obama’s opposition to Palestinian efforts to join the International Criminal Court, which the Palestinian Authority will formally join on April 1. Under a law passed by Congress, any Palestinian bid to bring war crimes charges against Israel at the court will automatically sever America’s $400 million in annual aid to the Palestinian Authority, although some experts suggested Obama could find indirect ways to continue some funding — even if only to prevent a dangerous collapse of the Palestinian governing body.
Meanwhile, Obama moves forward with his plans to unilaterally destroy the sanctions regime against Iran. Even as the Obama administration insists that the Iranian regime has broken nothing in the interim nuclear agreement (against all available evidence), Obama plans to sign a new executive agreement with Iran – and then go to the United Nations Security Council to relieve Iran of those sanctions, effectively destroying the possibility of sanctions by isolating Congress in pursuing them. If the European Union, China, Russia and the rest refuse to sanction Iran, nothing Congress does will make much of a difference, and Obama knows it.
At the same time, Obama likely is preparing another series of executive actions designed to implement United Nations climate change agreements. Typically, an executive agreement that has domestic impact must be accompanied by a piece of enabling legislation passed by Congress. Obama doesn’t care about such legalism. In September, he announced before the United Nations that he would tell all federal agencies to start including “climate resilience” into international development programs and investments. Today, Obama signed an executive order that would look to slash carbon emissions 40 percent compared to 2008 levels by 2025. As US News reported, “The president has made robust use of the Environmental Protection Agency, Energy Department and Interior Department to sidestep Republican opposition in Congress and act on global warming, increasing vehicle fuel economy standards, making cities more resilient to the effects of climate change and proposing cuts to carbon emissions from power plants.”
Obama’s move to browbeat Israel at the United Nations is part of a pattern: not just a pattern of dramatically anti-Israel activity, but a pattern of cutting America’s legislative body out of the loop in favor of monarchic action in collaboration with the World Community™. And that should scare everyone, not just advocates for the safety and security of the Jewish State.

Columnist Charles Krauthammer argued that the White House was either “trying to stab Israel in the back” or engaging in “a cynical attempt to distract” from a bad deal with Iran on Thursday’s “Kelly File” on the Fox News Channel.
“They are either trying to stab Israel in the back by supporting a UN resolution that will call for withdrawal — unilateral withdraw of Israel without peace, without recognition, without a renunciation of terror and will simply leave Israel helpless, against 50 years of American policy and against the existing UN resolution which is from 1967, the famous Resolution 242 which says that Israel will withdraw to secure and recognized boundaries, and these are insecure boundaries. So this would be — either it’s a revolution in our policy, we’re going to force the unilateral withdrawal which could be fatal for Israel, or it’s a cynical attempt to distract, create a second issue of crisis with Israel because we are about to hear an announcement about a catastrophic deal with Iran over nukes, and that would be a way of distracting Israeli and pro-Israel attention from the nuclear issue” he stated.
Krauthammer also reacted to President Obama’s statement to Iran, saying “if only he would address as warmly the Israelis as he does the Iranians and their leaders. This is quite remarkable…to include this kind of swipe at Israel, in addressing the ayatollahs is really rather new and quite startling.”

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — The U.S. Government lied to a federal judge, misrepresented facts and illegally gave 100,081 illegal aliens immigration status despite a pending lawsuit and an injunction. That is the argument that attorneys representing Texas and more than two dozen other states made.
During the heated court hearing Andrew Hanen, a U.S. District Court Judge, said that the apparent violation had made him look like an idiot since he initially believed the U.S. Government.
In a heated court hearing Angela Colmonero from the Texas Attorney General’s office stated that Texas had acted promptly in November 2014 upon learning of President Barack Obama’s executive amnesty and had followed all the timelines set forth with a sense of urgency.
“This was done to preserve the status quo and to prevent irreparable damage to the state,” Colmonero said referring to the cost that the individuals would bring and to the incentive for further illegal immigration. “You can’t put toothpaste back in the tube.”
During the hearings leading to an injunction handed down by Judge Hanen, attorney’s with the Department of Justice claimed that if an injunction was filed nothing would be done. That wasn’t the case, the Texas attorney said.
“The defendant did the exact opposite and gave 100,000 renewals for a term of three years under the expanded DACA,” Colmonero said. “The defendant didn’t inform the court until March 3—15 days after the injunction was filed.”
According to Colmonero’s statements, the program known as DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) was implemented in 2012; however in November 2014 it was expanded, changing the time of the permits from two years to three years. Therefore the permits issued by the U.S. Government are a violation.
The coalition of states asked the court to give them early access as to the defendant’s documents and files since they couldn’t be taken at their word, Colmonero said.
DOJ attorney Kathleen Hardeck appeared nervous as she stuttered her response saying it was the terminology used that led to confusion, but once they saw that things could be misinterpreted they had tried to notify the court.
“When I asked you what would happen and you said nothing I took it to heart,” Hanen said. “I was made to look like an idiot. I believed your word that nothing would happen.”
During the hearing Hanen talked about possible penalties if, in fact, the evidence proved that the government had lied. He said it would probably not be financial since the taxpayer would be footing the bill over damages already made to them.
After hearing the arguments from both sides Hanen said he would issue a ruling in the near future.

Security experts along with Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, have long argued that pushing Israel back to its pre-1967 Arab-Israeli war boundaries would make it impossible for the Israeli military to defend the Jewish state.
“The premise of our position internationally has been to support direct negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians,” a senior White House officials who refused to reveal their identity told the Times. “We are now in a reality where the Israeli government no longer supports direct negotiations. Therefore we clearly have to factor that into our decisions going forward.”
Some have argued that the administration’s new pressure towards the Jewish state stems fromanger over Netanyahu’s successful reelection as the country’s Prime Minister.
The Israeli Prime Minister has previously explained directly to Obama why the 67’ lines are non-negotiable for Israel’s defense. “Israel wants peace. I want peace,” but “a peace based on illusions will crash eventually on the rocks of Middle Eastern reality,” Netanyahu explained to the President in a 2011 meeting.
President Obama took the position in 2011 that the borders of Israel and a future Palestinian state “should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps.”
Israel’s post-67’ borders are a result of successfully defending itself against multiple Arab aggressors in the 1967 Arab-Israeli 6-day war. Israel took control of the West Bank, or Judea and Samaria, from the Kingdom of Jordan, after the Arab armies failed in their mission to annihilate the Jewish state. With the signing of the 1993 Oslo accords, Israel became the first country to offer the Palestinian people self-governing land.

On St. Patrick’s Day the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that oil production from three of America’s largest shale plays is in decline. The EIA is forecasting that total U.S. oil production will be in decline in the 3rd quarter.
The South Texas Eagle Ford, North Dakota’s Bakken/Three Forks and the Niobrara in Colorado & Wyoming are in decline. Since horizontal shale wells have very steep production decline rates (more than 50% in the first year), the oil supply “glut” will be corrected by market forces. Shale plays require continuous drilling or they quickly go on decline.
The price of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil is testing the 5-year low as I write this article. Oil traders are dealing with some facts and a lot of fiction these days. The physical market is obviously oversupplied today, but the word “glut” is being way overused.
There is no doubt in my mind that some of the “narrative” coming from Wall Street analysts is purposely meant to drive down the price of oil. More than 90% of the NYMEX futures contracts are now held by non-commercial “speculators”. Many of them are now “short” oil, hoping the price of WTI will fall. Once Wall Street gets oil prices as low as they can, they will suddenly change their tone and point out that demand for oil is going up and supplies are falling. I have seen this happen several times in my 35+ years in the industry. What’s happening now is not new.
Read more: Big Changes Needed For Big Oil To Survive
During February, WTI rose off the low of around $45/bbl that was set in late January. Oil seemed to have found a home in the $50 to $55 per barrel range a few weeks ago. Investors moved some money back into the upstream sector; pushing several of my favorite E&P companies up more than 20% year-to-date. They have now pulled back in lock step with oil prices.
On March 13, the International Energy Agency (IEA) published their monthly Oil Market Report. It cause quite a stir on Friday the 13th and oil dropped more than $2.00/bbl. You can read the highlights of the report here: https://www.iea.org/oilmarketreport/omrpublic/
I thought the IEA report contained some rather bullish long-range forecasts, not the least of which is that the IEA believes global demand for refined products will increase 2.0 million barrels per day from where demand is today by the 4th quarter. They believe low fuel prices will continue to increase global demand, pushing demand for refined products up over 95 million barrels per day by year-end. I think their estimates may prove to be quite conservative. A year after the last big drop in oil prices that occurred in 2008, demand for liquid fuels increased by 3.3 million barrels per day in 2009.
So, why are oil prices still so low?
1. There is a lot of “FEAR” being generated by concerns over the rapidly rising amount of oil in storage. In my opinion, this is way over-blown.
2. U.S. oil production continues to rise, despite the sharp drop in the active rig count.
3. Seasonal and unplanned refinery outages have lowered demand for oil.
4. Traders are worried that President Obama will agree to a deal with Iran and lift the sanctions that are keeping an estimated million barrels per day off the market.
5. Strength of the U.S. dollar continues to weigh on commodity prices.
2. U.S. oil production continues to rise, despite the sharp drop in the active rig count.

4. Traders are worried that President Obama will agree to a deal with Iran and lift the sanctions that are keeping an estimated million barrels per day off the market.
5. Strength of the U.S. dollar continues to weigh on commodity prices.
Let’s take these issues one at a time.
Oil Storage: At the end of February, the EIA reported that working oil storage capacity in the U.S. was 40% empty. The most talked about storage location – Cushing, Oklahoma – still has about 20 million barrels of working capacity remaining. As the tanks at Cushing approach capacity, the storage fees go up and oil will be directed elsewhere. There are many pipelines that take oil out of Cushing, so the oil is not “stranded” there. Oil will not start overflowing the tanks in central Oklahoma or anywhere else.
Read more: The Truth About U.S. Crude Storage
It is very important to understand that the weekly EIA oil storage reports (published on Wednesdays) includes pipeline fill and field level storage. Although it is somewhat hazy, it is estimated that the U.S. oil pipeline system and upstream field tanks have approximately 120 million barrels of above ground oil in “storage”. It is not included in the ~525 million barrels of commercial storage capacity that many analysts compare to the oil inventory number each week.
So, the real storage capacity in the United States is approximately 645 million barrels, compared to the 458.5 million barrels the EIA reported on March 18 as the crude oil inventory level. Therefore, we have almost 180 million barrels of storage capacity remaining and this does not include floating storage. Plus, we are only a few weeks away from the time refiners will draw more feedstock from storage.
When we combine U.S. commercial storage, other OECD storage and floating storage, there is no risk that the world will run out of places to store oil before demand starts to exceed supply. However, the weekly EIA storage reports are likely to remain bearish for at least six more weeks. The speculators that want oil to go lower will keep beating this drum.
U.S. Production Growth: Investors are puzzled by the reports that U.S. production continues to rise while the number of rigs drilling for oil has dropped more than 45% in six months. The reason for this is simple; the drilling of new wells is not what increases production. It is the connection of those wells to a gathering system that adds production. The lag time from spudding a horizontal well to completing it to connecting the supply to a pipeline can be over six months. There was a large inventory of wells “waiting on completion” when all of this started back in June and it takes time to work through this inventory.
Several of the companies I follow are now saying they plan to drill wells and hold off on completing them until oil prices move higher. Although I agree with this strategy, it is impossible to estimate how much this will impact daily production rates. My guess is not very much.
U.S. onshore production should peak this summer and go on decline in the 3rd quarter. There are several Gulf of Mexico projects coming on-line this spring that will increase total U.S. production by approximately 200,000 barrels per day. Gulf of Mexico production is expected to peak at close to 1.7 million barrels per day (BOPD) in the first quarter of 2016, up from 1.4 million BOPD currently.
Seasonal and unplanned refinery outages have lowered demand for oil: The real “consumers” of crude oil are refineries. Refiners are required to do annual maintenance and reconfigure their processes to go from producing winter blends of transportation fuels and home heating oil to producing summer blends of gasoline and diesel. Most of the maintenance related slowdowns occur in March and September. There was also a fire at a large California refinery a few months ago and a workers’ strike that lowered crude oil demand. More crude will be “taken” by refiners in the second quarter.
Iran: President Obama and Mr. Kerry seem “hell bent” on getting a deal done with Iran. In my opinion, this is very dangerous territory. Iran is a known sponsor of global terrorism and they supply weapons to several groups that want to kill us. I trust them about as far as I can throw an ICBM. They are taking control of Iraq as you read this and will soon have Saudi Arabia surrounded. Deals with the “devil” seldom work out well.
Based on the letter 47 senators sent to the leadership of Iran last week, I doubt any deal Obama and Kerry come up with leads to a lifting of sanctions anytime soon. Even if it does, it will take several months for Iran to ramp up their crude oil output.
Strength of the U.S. Dollar: This is a real concern.
The spike in the value of the dollar compared to a basket of other currencies can be viewed at:http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/index/dxy/charts
The dollar is up approximately 25% from where it traded during the 2nd quarter of 2014 and is responsible for at least $25/bbl of the drop in the price of WTI crude oil. Since oil trades in U.S. dollars, there is an inverse relationship between the dollar and the price of oil. This tops my list of “real” concerns when it comes to my long-term outlook for oil prices.
Conclusion: Your guess as to where oil prices are heading in the next few months is as good as mine. Even though there are plenty of places to store oil, the record high U.S. oil inventories will continue to give the bears support for lower price forecasts. In my opinion, we are nearing the mid-point of the bottoming process for oil. At the beginning of the year I predicted that oil would test the lows several times during February to May, and then begin to rise. I’ve seen nothing yet to change my opinion.
In the short-term, I am expecting energy investors to remain on the sidelines until they see U.S. production growth slow and demand increasing.
